Development Authority hopes to buy old school for $1

Plans are underway to breathe new life into a deteriorating and unused former school building in downtown Zebulon.

The Downtown Development Authority wants to buy the old Zebulon Elementary School and renovate it into an arts center. The boarded-up structure, which sits right off the courthouse square, is between the administrative offices for Pike County schools and the school bus garage.

The DDA offered to buy the building from Pike schools for $1. The board of education has not yet voted on the sale but members are receptive to the idea. It is expected to vote on the proposed sale in December. Superintendent Dr. Michael Duncan is negotiating with the DDA and hammering out details for presentation to the board next month.

Why didn't the BOC buy the old school for the judicial complex? $1 seems a whole lot more reasonable than $180,000.

The price was for the building, NOT the land. Would you buy a house for a dollar and let the owner keep the land in their name?

If you dummies had of voted for SPLOST then we would have the $1.00 to buy it. We tried to tell yous peoples. Now we will have to wait till next year and I still have all my signs!!!

The DDA should just borrow the money from United Bank. Chris can get enough peoples to endorse the note, she could count on Don Collins I'm sure. Put up the pecan farm deed.
$1.00 is a big risk.

Just how much of the $1.00 will Dr. Duncan get? Sounds like he has been taking lessons from the master County Manager. It is all greed. If the County Manager had of put his find of $30,000 in cash to good use then he could buy 30,000 old school buildings.

Citizen Lotto winner has stepped forward and will donate the $1.00 to purchase the school building from the BOE. A prominent Atlanta attorney is working out the financial details between Mr. Citizen Lotto, Don Nutty 1 Collins, the DDA and County attorney. The DDA, IDA, BOE and BOC plans to name the Court House Square after Mr. Citizen Lotto.

I want everyone to know I am running for county manager and school board superintendent all at the same time. i think with the combined salaries of these two positions I can live in the style to which I want to become accustomed . And I promise I will do a good job... gooder in the county manager position. And one of my campaign promises will be to buy all abandoned county buildings for next to nothin and overpay for all land purchases for unecessary uses. Oh, and I'll make up a lot of hogwash to feed everyone about why we need it.... whatever it is.

It is the Christmas Season upon us. Pleeze let's all be nice. There is someone that needs your help. He has helped everyone, he makes biscuit ever Sunday for his church, he does not even get to hear the service, he does it because they need his biscuit.
