Fallen officer honored

This year, the Georgia Legislature dedicated Highway 18 in Pike County to Trooper Tony Lumley in honor of his service. Lumley, 36, was an officer from Pike who lost his life during a vehicle pursuit on Highway 16 in Spalding County.

Went to school with Tony, I am reminded of him almost daily as I deliver the mail to the Griffin State Patrol Office, where he worked. He was a very nice guy. Such a loss, but a great way to honor him.

I knew Tony very briefly, but got to know him fairly well. He really did love his job, and he loved to make you smile. He is still very missed and I pray his children know the hero that their father was.

I knew Tony for 20+ years. We went to school together and were neighbors. I watched him grow into the fine man that he was. I was very proud of him and to call him a friend. He is missed in our community. He would be proud of how his daughters have grown. They are beautiful kids with a great future. I was so pleased when I found out that the county woudl honor him in the way they did. Thnaks!
