Well said. While I respect different opinions, perspectives, and religious observations at this time of year, for me and my family, we will celebrate Thanksgiving, then Christmas.
Thank you! Thank you! May we all celebrate how we choose, yet remain understanding of others beliefs. America was founded on the basis of trust in God, and its about time we remember that!
No~one will take the meaning of Christmas away from me or my kids!!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! ( and for those who don't like it can shoove it up there a$$ )!! Oh, my ........ I love a freedom of speach but that to, will soon be taken away for America is not that free at all!!
Personally, I dont care what people say..Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Kwanzaa. I like to think of Christmas as a time to love one another no matter what trivial beliefs drive them apart during the rest of the year. I think that is a point Jesus tried to make. Love one another.
But I feel I should point out (although trivial) that Jesus was NOT born on Christmas. Christians do not have the monopoly on this time of year.
"The date of December 25 to celebrate Christ’s birth was chosen to conform to the old, pagan Roman holidays called "Saturnalia" and "Brumalia."
Because the Roman emperor Aurelian fixed December 25th for the winter solstice holiday in AD 274, it is thought that the early Christians adopted this day for their Christ-mass so that they would be less conspicuous in the observance of their holiday.
Most scholars believe that the birthday of Jesus was never known and that the December date was chosen solely for convenience."
I grew up in church. I love Jesus. He is wonderful. However, I am reluctant to call myself a Christian or be part of any religion. So, I am spiritual but not religious (meaning-not ascribing to a particular institution, creed or ritualistic practice). However, I believe that religious people have a place in society, ex. to help spread the word and take care of the needy etc.., but, religion has also been used to commit some of the worst atrocities that the world has seen (I am not singling out any particular religion).
One single religion does not hold the only key to heaven. But it has been used to control and manipulate people for centuries (politics for example). All someone has to do is invoke the name of Jesus and some people will blindly follow.
To me, it is a personal journey. And everyone is my brother...not just the people in my church or the people who share my political views. The idiot next door, the drunk on the street corner..I believe that we should just love people without judgement. (By the way...the drunk will have to answer for his own issues but I can still withhold judgement). And that is not just a Christian teaching, I believe this to be universal truth that transcends one particular religion.
another good reason to shop our wonderful stores . I have almost always be told to have a blessed day at freds. I have always been told merry christmas every year from both DG and freds. The people are always nice in both places.
