I'm so happy that the horses were safely removed and that no people were hurt. I am sorry for the loss of such a beautiful facility.

JC has lost it. You cannot post on his Polecat unless he likes what you say. JC is like Obama and his war with FOX. JC has blown it if he thinks he could lead District 1. I do not like Commissioner Roosevelt Willis and think he is doing a poor job but will support him if JC runs. Lt. Dan Henderson of the Clayton Fire Department hitched himself to two wrong trailers that will take him nowhere, JC's and Steve Marro's. The Polecat is not the USA Today, not the Atlanta Journal and JC should not expect to rub elbows with the PJR.

Was Pike County Fire Cheif Danny Henderson on the scene? Has he commented on the fire? Where is the Executive Fire County Director Manager Stephen A. Marro during this fire? Last but not least, How did the FIRE FEE meeting go at 3:00pm. Guess we will have to call Fire Commissioner John Oxindine to find out.

Lt. Henderson/PCFD chief was working his fulltime job when this fire occured. He probally directed the units from CC.

Chief Danny was in total control. He watched the fire on FOX 5 and used Steve Marro's cell phone to direct operations. With out Lt. Henderson leading the Clayton Fire Department and fighting the Concord fire at the same time by cell phone then the barn would have been a loss. Danny saved what could have been a real loss to our county.

The story refers to it as just "a large barn," but that building has some history to it. It was at one time the Concord school. I went to school there, for a year, in fifth grade and I remember that Miss Julia Mae Elder was our strict principal and Connie Williams was our teacher.

Thank Goodness David, no one was injured so Miss Julia Mae Elder and Connie Williams escaped the fire.

so sad to hear about the horse barn. my late husband did the brick work and kitchen tile .
he always said his work would be memories for me when he was gone. i feel like i lost a memory of his beautil work . In my eyes he was the best.
so very glad no one and animals were hurt

Hey do you still not realize that Pike County Fire Department is a Volunteer Department? Do you not realize most of these Volunteers have other full time jobs that have to go to so they can support their families. Do you not realize when a fire or ems emergency happens that in one sense we are at the mercy of actually how many volunteers are able to respond. I believe Fire Chief Danny Henderson was at his full time job in Clayton County and could not respond? Did you realize that they might have actually had enough volunteers at this fire but there was hardly any pressure on the hydrants which are not the responsibility of the volunteers. They did what they could. Do you realize that many of the people who have stuff burned down in Pike County is not a result of the Pike County Fire Department being there, their response times are great but so many folks do not have smoke detectors and by the time they get there to the fire it is too late to save it. Why didnt you go to the Fire Fee Meeting yourself if it means so much to you? Call Oxidine if you want to, I am sure he will be awaiting your call? LOL

Until Pike County can man fulltime staffed fire stations dont go blaming the Fire Fighters or Fire Chief. And to keep/maintain the Country atmosphere we love so much here in Pike County it will stay this way. We just have to be more fire safetry conscious and deal with whatever happens. I mean do you really want a whole mass movement of people and business's to Pike County that has destroyed other counties like Henry County or do you want to keep the home town family feel? I mean so many of you still do not realize that it is a VOLUNTEER Fire Department. Thank goodness there are Volunteers who try to do the best they can. I mean have any of you noticed as a Volunteer Fire Department Chief the new Engines and New Stations that have arrived since Chief Henderson took the position. But there is nothing he can do personally as the Fire Chief as far as finding funds to pay fulltime firefighters!

We need a fulltime paid fire chief and firefighters with all the new firehouses manned 24/7. Make Lt. Danny Henderson a fulltime employee of Pike County with a benefit package. Make Danny a real chief.

Yes please Make It Happen. The Lt. cannot run his job with the CCFD and work for Pike at the sametime. If this happens your Dad would open up a Lt. position at the CCFD for someone who cares and is qualified to be a Lt.

This is so sad. I had a horse at Magnolia Farms and I feel so blessed that Stacey and the staff there were able to get all the horses out in time. Usually the horses don't make it out in barn fires because they occur during the middle of the night. I used to work there in high shool and I know this barn was kept in top shape. I pray for Stacey and her family as they have some important decisions to make.

How many firefighters? How many Zebulon and Pike County fulltime? Well. 100 Barnesville and Lamar County firefighters. 9 or 12 Barnesville and Lamar County firefighters staying at the new station 24 hours.

Please support the SPLOST. Help our county by supporting tourism. We need our hotels, motels, tour buses and resturants full. Through the IDA and Chamber of Commerce we can promote tours of our fire houses, BOC Chambers, The Flint River Walk, Marro's planned Bed and Breakfast, The historical Pike County Court House, Pike Flick Movie Playhouse,
watch live dumpster diving and most of all visit vacant business buildings on the square.
Get all the visitors from New Hampshire, New York City and Flager Beach Florida to pay for our Judicial Complex with their pennies, not the locals.

Moving Pike County Forward at Collins, Marro, Swift, Henderson and your IDA at yous peoples speed.

The rec room stuff? Most bought by the ff themselves through bake sales or donations.

you shouldn't be worried about what the interior of the fire dept looks like. The money should be spent on trying to fund a full time paid dept.

you obviously don't know much about the Barnesville/Lamar Co. Fire Rescue. There are not 100 firefighters on roster. We have 1 paid firefighter on duty in the county everyday. That's 3 paid firefighters (they each work 24 hr shifts). All others that respond are volunteers. There are about 50 on roster. Some work city & county calls. The county is working toward funding more paid full time firefighters but not sure when this will be able to happen. It's not going to happen just because we get a new headquarters station.

Many folks here know who one of the main persons is spewing all these negativities, he might not think we know but the Fire Chief has to look no farther then CCFD one of his own fellow employees from his own department he works at fulltime. HMM I wondered who that is. We know it is you. POLECAT proved that over there also it was you over there and here also. Crazy how you are so jealous of Chief Henderson. If you wanted the job so bad why didnt you volunteer.

I can guarantee you I have no associtated ties with the PC Vol FD. But this past weekend I did stop by one of the Fire Station houses and since there were vols there asked for a tour. The FFs were more than welcoming to let me- PC taxpayer tour the place. I asked a few questions and before leaving, thanked them for what they do. After shaking hands I departed with a greater appreciation for their volunteerism. As for me, I am a little to old and broke to sign up to be a vol FF. I do what I can do for our community instead of stitting on the sidelines and throwing rocks.
If we spent more time actually listening before formulating an opinion, we would have a better chance understanding the truth.

No matter what the situation, I am always amazed by the number of expert firefighters. Their willingness to set the story straight at the cost of their own stupidity. People often forget that there are three sides to every story. Your side, my side, and then the truth. It is always a terrible thing when property is lost due to fire, but the pointing of fingers only makes the fire burn hotter. Yes, Pike County is all volunteer, and as far as I know they are still accepting new members. I am still looking for a posting of” I cared enough to fill out an application to become a Pike County Firefighter.” We are often quick to point out how others could have changed the situation, and fail to acknowledge our own role in the situation. For those of you that did everything possible to fight that horrific fire I commend you, and those of you that can only point fingers at your perceived notions of the truth, I pray for you. “Firefighting: the only race where the stopwatch is started before we know we’ve been entered to run”

I agree! People of the county, & Lamar Co as well, just don't realize what goes on in a fire dept. They also don't realize or appreciate, with the exception of a few, what it takes to run a volunteer dept. We (yes, I say we b/c I go to fire calls also), take time out of our family/personal time to run these calls & also have many sleepless nights & have to leave food on the table to run calls. Residents need to be more appreciative. I get so angry to hear "the fire dept lost another one" When not all structures can be saved, safely. They may also not realize that a lot of roads in the county don't have hydrants so we have to shuttle water in which may also hinder efforts. Residents, be more involved, know about your county fire depts!

We have 9 paid firefighters on duty in the city and county everyday. Not 1 paid firefighter on duty. Thats 27 paid firefighters. Not 3 paid firefighters. Lt. Danny Henderson of the CCFD and Executive Fire Chief Pike County, read the book on fire hydrants and testing of such. The red plugs are to be tested, they are not urnials for Don's dogs.

My mother-in -laws house burn in May of this year. Pike Co. volunteer fire dept. responded quickly , and saved alot of memories for her and the rest of our family.Thank you Pike Co. volunteers for everything you do.
