Administrators and school officials burst unexpectedly into Melanie Smith’s classroom at the middle school Friday morning with the welcome news that she had been crowned system Teacher of the Year.

Couldn't have happened to a better teacher! She is a wonderful, deserving person. Our children in middle school are lucky to have her.
