School's in session...forever!

It seems the government wants to extend school be it by the hours in the day or the days in the year. Either way, the decision has some parents and a lot of students up in arms.

The change would bring about a host of peripheral issues - childcare, budgeting for teachers/educators, school security, etc.

We all this will not happen. There is not enough money to pay the teachers. Or enough money to heat/cool the schools for longer days or a longer school year. I am all for the kids going to school but longer days or year is only going to make kids drop out sooner or resent going to school. My kids enjoy school but when they heard this they stated no way I'll drop out. They are straight A students so how do you think the other kids feel about it.

And just what did you say to your kids? They better not have that attitude out in the workplace with unemployment as high as it is.

I told them that it was not the right answer and if need be I would home school them. And there are jobs out there for people that want to work. To bad most like to sit at home and collect a check.

Kids aren't all dumb. They are well aware that a school is not a "workplace" for them, nor is it a jailhouse.

trying to insinuate to them that they need to behave like they are really adults at a workplace is improper, and again, they know they aren't.

Kids are kids, and they need to be able to be kids. Not spend their entire childhood in school.

The goverment is going to do what they want to do and there is nothing the citizens can do about it.....I'm not for it but this is how I feel if it is passed....

If they do pass it and we have no choice, I believe the parents should stand up to their children and make them go to school if they are living under your roof!! No if's and but's about it. Make a rule and stand by it!! If they don't like it then let them get out and support theirself!! Believe me once they are out on their own for a bit they will be running back home, saying I will go to school!! Thats whats wrong with the kids today........Most parents make it easy on their kids. Oh that is to harsh for them.......Oh well, you think life is going to care if it is to harsh on them?? NOPE!!

Homeschool is so right, I found out that Pike Co is so corrupt that we started homeschool 4 yrs ago. Best thing I ever did

This is horrible. If this is Obama's answer to kids having a BETTER education, they need something BETTER to get it, and NOT MORE of the SAME.

Which is the teachers spoon feeding the kids information to MEMORIZE and not LEARN the answers to the state tests so they can pass, and the schools can GET MORE MONEY.

ALL thanks to the NCLB law, which parents don't know much about. If they did, they would be fighting mad about what THEIR tax dollars are doing to their own childs education.
SO, more days, hours etc means more money for schools.

Education in US is so far down the totem pole as it is compared to most other countries, so how does Obama think having more of the same will make it go up the pole?

Teachers already complain too much about how the parents don't take care of thier children and they are made to babysit them. I dont' blame them for complaining. So, I would think the teachers wouldn't want this either, having to babysit even MORE because Obama is wanting the teachers to do the PARENTS job.

I AGREE WITH YOU 100% My kids get "special" help. Which I feel is b/s. They dont get what they need and the schools are falling so far behind b/c of the money they get. If they cant afford to pay the teachers now how are they going to pay them more???? My kids will be sitting at home watching t.v. getting "dumb" in the books and strret smart. They will only need to know the basics b/c there wont be crap left for them when they get old enough to work. GOD BLESS AMERICA AND GET RID OF NOBAMA!!!

Oh like the family's are at home with their kids at night anyway?? And to be honest ........Kids would much rather be with kids then their own parents!!
