A sleepy driver who killed a man in a Pike County traffic accident pleaded guilty Friday afternoon and received jail time.

I could understand if there was some intent, but to punish someone like this over something that was honestly an accident, thats pretty crappy there.

Well take it as you will but an accident is just that an accident. To knowingly drive tired is manslaughter. He bragged about it on myspace. So shut your yapper. If it had been your family member you would feel differently. Im not family but I know the family and he got what he deserved. Maybe this time away from his family will make him see that you cant drive while you are tired. Maybe it will give him and his family a slight idea of what Don's kids are going through and will go through for the rest of their lives. He had a small daughter who crys for her dad all the time. Could you explain to your child where their dad is at???? No you couldnt so shut your cold hearted ass up!

We know that you have NEVER knowingly driven while tired.
Nothing was said in court about My Space. This is a tragedy for the young man too. And I HAVE lost someone to a tired driver almost 20 years ago. He got nothing. I was mad. Now that I am older I know that the guy has to live with the fact that he took a life.

Well lets see sherlock... you have a medical condition that makes you sleepy and you are already tired? DONT DRIVE. Go read the police report he told the cops that he had to stop and buy energy drinks just to try and stay awake. And as far as the myspace page goes the proof is printed out. Wanna see it? Wanna see how a wanna be thug turned into a christian overnight to try and keep his ass out of jail? Wanna see how he made fun of the situation???? First off let me say I am one of the step daughters. My step father Don was a wonderful person who would do anything for anyone. His life was taken on Jan. 2, 2008 by a very selfesh act from someone. His memorial service was on my birthday Jan.6. He was my step father for 20 years. Do you actually know how hard life has been without him. No you dont b/c it wasnt your family member. Lets think about something here, if your family member was killed in a very tragic accident by a selfseh act how would you feel? What would the best punishment be in your eyes? Put yourself in the familys shoes that lost someone. And then make the comment it isnt right he serve time. You know most of my family doesnt feel he just serve the 12 months. We feel there should be more time b/c this was murder. We have lost our father FOREVER. Before people make stupid comments you should think how you would feel if it were your family member gone forever. I am glad he didnt get away with the selfesh act he chose to make. Don had 7 children he left behind and the youngest being 5 yrs old now. She is my little sister. She was 3 when this happened. And exactly 1 month later her 4th Birthday followed this tragic day. Feb. 4th. My little sister has no idea what is going on. All she knows is her dad isnt returning home. He was only going to ingles to get baby formula for his 9 month old granddaughter to never return home. Don was Mr. MOM. He was disabled from back problems and he is the one who kept the household. Now my little sister has to grow up without her father in her life. She worshipped the ground he walked on. She ask us everyday when he is going to come home so she can see him. She wants to know why he cant drive back down here from Heaven to see her. She told my mother one night she wanted to die so she could go see him. She cries herself to sleep every night b/c she says " Mommy I just dont remember what my daddy sounds like anymore" Now you tell me how in the world you explain this to a 5 year old. She has NIGHTMARES every night. She wakes up about 2AM and wants to get out of bed and watch TV b/c she is so scared to go back to sleep. If there is anyone out there reading this now that thinks they could handle this and know what to say to there child that has to go through this and still feels the person at fault shouldnt be punished then I would love to hear from you. But I know there is no one that can say that if the shoe were on the other foot. So please think about the family who is suffering a tragic loss. This isnt a temporary loss it is FOREVER. This tragic accident has done TREMENDOUS amounts of DAMAGE to our family. I wont continue on about the other party. Just wanted everyone that has some smart comment about what is fair and isnt fair to know how our family feels and what we are going through. So please EVERYONE... DO NOT DRIVE SLEEPY. This could be your family.

There is just not much to say after that. I think that you took care of all of the people who do not know what it feels like to tragically lose a loved one. As for #5, coulda, woulda, shoulda. If you were trying to write a victim assistance program, you were great. You say BOTH families are SUFFERING. Do the math... The convicted person spends weekends, holidays and summer vacation in jail for 12 months. His family will miss him for 1 Thankgiving and 1 Christmas. The Kidd family with miss him EVERY Thanksgiving and Christmas. I don not know either family involved, but I am somewhat an educated person, and that just does not add up. We can all sit comfortably in our homes and say what we would have done or what we would feel, I say B.S. Until you have been placed in that position, you would never know. Also to #5, you were right on one thing, the tradegy has happened and the consequences are happening. Nothing that #3 says now can change that, but it sure feels better to vent. So #3 you keep right on venting and MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.

I also lost my husband Dec 9, 2009, not by a car accident but by a heart attack. I to can feel your pain, the childrens pain. They say time heals all but for those who love with their heart it takes longer to heal. "No one" will ever take your dads place!! Just know his soul surrounds you and his family. He will walk beside you and protect you. He is now your family's Angel. He will guide you through the tough times. Just talk to him. He is there, he is listening.

I'm sorry to hear his daughter, yet so young, is having trouble with this. Comfort her, cry with her, be there for her.....As time goes on, she too will be able to deal with this. Most important thing is talk to her. Let her tell you her fears. Let her know her dad can hear her and she can talk to him any time of the day. This may help to ease some of the pain.

I don't have all the answers and don't claim to but I felt that I needed to reach out to you. I will be praying for you and your family memembers. Things will get better. Best thing to do is have positive thoughts. Take all the negative thoughts out. Trust me on this. Positive thoughts attract positive things, attitudes, and much more positive out comes.

My heart goes out to you and your family!!

Please take my advice and TRY TO FORGIVE. I can tell this is eating you the way it did me. Work on forgiveness towards the peace your loved one would want you to have. You'll be on my prayer list.

During a tragedy such as things, emotions run high, fingers get pointed, and people are not always in their right frame of mind. Both families are suffering, but the tragedy has happened, the consequences are happening, and all of the ugliness going on between the families and community members will not change what has happened.

For people who are not directly involved, instead of showing hatred, why not put that energy towards something more useful? Volunteer somewhere to help people. Offer to help the families involved with their grieving process. Help to spread the word about driving safely in a productive manner.

By mudslinging and cursing, the situation will never be solved. People will not be able to heal, and the tragedy will continue. Those of us not personally involved need to be there to love and support, and to look at our own lives and think....could that have been us? I know I could have been the person killed and I could have been the driver who was tired. I have driven sad and upset. No one does everything exactly the way things should be done. If you are casting stones, I would wear a hard hat, because your time will come.

Maybe the judge should have added to his punishment , that he talk to groups of people
that they shouldn't drive while sleepy. Then
he would remember each time he speaks about it,
what hurt he has caused the other family.

Losing someone in a car accident is so sudden that it leaves the family with shock, anger, despair.
Add Facebook bragging to the equation and that can only triple the pain of this awful situation.

The family who lost someone due to this tradgedy need to try and find some forgiveness. And as for him being selfish....I think we all are guilty of driving while tired. It happens. Yes by the way he was bragging on myspace. I guess you dont know much about this situation. Our family has proof. I am the one who actually found out and had it printed out for PROOF. If you would like to see you can. The exact words under his picture of the hurt arm were..."Car crash couldn't hold this hustler down" Now is that not bragging or what? Look you are right staying mad and not forgiving is only gonna make this process harder and longer. I am one of the children so i can say this. I hurt everyday. For one b/c i have a daughter who misses her grandfather but not only that I have a 5 yr old sister (6 months younger than my daughter) who grieves terribly over this. You will never know the pain until you have actually been there. Our family is torn apart. This has done a large number to our family. It is a process that takes time and as we get older and wiser Im sure one day we will be able to cope with the situation a little better. But as for the younger ones we have to understand here. We have lost something forever. And he wasnt just a no body. He was a SOMEBODY, who was very dear to us. I know everything happens for a reason and God has a plan for everyone involved but when you have lost a loved one is does a tremendous amount of damage to you heart, emotions and more. So now it is over, court is over and there is nothing else that can be done. we are done. What happened, happened, and we all suffer the consequences of a selfesh mistake. And yes it was being selfesh to drive knowing you are tired and have fallen asleep many times and even stopped to get energy drinks, and to keep going knowing what could happen is being selfesh.

This non-repentant scofflaw deserved a harsher sentence.

Judge Tommy Hankinson handed down the light sentence so it "won't interfere with his college education." How nice. Is his educational route leading to a "community organizer" position?

His "inconvenience" is not a bump in the road of life. His route continues unabated leaving Mr. Kidd's survivors on a dead end street of many unanswered questions. WHY?

'The judge...ordered him not to have a personal webpage nor use a cell phone or other electronic communications device during that time.' What a profound sentence!

This entry remains as his personal statement and signifies Doaty is truly "unashamed" for his actions one year and 7 days after he KILLED Mr. Kidd. Furthermore, 21 months have passed between the KILLING and SENTENCING.
This is ample time for Doaty to be ashamed. He isn't!

Does anyone, with the exception of Judge Hankinson, believe Doaty is not 'living large'? No cell phone?...no email?
No computer games?...no cruising?... I DON'T!

VOILA!...It appears logical, but, logic doesn't always prevail within an indulgent society. Judge Hankinson would have signed his order at sentencing on September 18.

Doaty logically should have removed his "personal webpage" "at that point" as you wrote. Jamal Doaty waited until September 25, to remove MySpace and FaceBook. Does that seem like "at that point" to you. Duh!

Due to the week long delay, it appears Doaty was abiding by his own "sentance" by Taking Care Of 'Bidness'.

I did not "assume" credit for the CONVICT taking down his web pages. My post simply drew attention to Doaty continuing to maintain a "personal webpage".

I also read the story where the judge issued an order to deny him using internet service, and then a few days later, his internet pages were removed. Doesn't take too much past average intelligence to have seen that one coming. Do you think at the stroke of the judges pen, they would magically vanish? I think a couple of weeks was very reasonable.

Guess some people feel smart trying to presume the obvious, then blabber on incoherently when someone outs them.

As a frined of the family of Jamal, I'd first like to say this affected their family as well. People are so quick to judge when they have no knowledge of a certain situation. True enough, the family loss a loved one but even in the beginning this family tried to portray Jamal to be this black kid from this so awful neighborhood in Thomaston. All that know this family know them as good people, all with educational backgrounds, and clearly not products of their so called "bad environment." As for the status on his private social networking accounts, people that are close to him and are familiar with Jamal's character knew the meanings of those status. He is not some insensitive person, and the statuses have nothing to do with the death of Mr. Kidd. Do you all not realize that Jamal has other life occurrences other than than this horrible accident that has forever changed us all? So I feel people should stop trying to read more into this young man's life than what it actually is. Clearly, the judge saw that as well, as any other decent person that meets Jamal has also. Again, as a family friend, I can honestly speak for the family and say that we are sorry for your lost and you will forever be in our prayers.

I'm sure the life that was lost would want the same thing-for you all to move on. God forgives us for our sins, so why is it that people hold grudges. I'm sure if the accident left this family with a loss instead, they wouldn't be so grudgen-hearted as this family is clearly being. Putting so much negative energy into the loss of a family member. Try celebrating his life and I think you all would feel a lot better.

This is said with the upmost respect for the Kidd family; I am Jamal's sister. If you dont think for a day since January 2, 2008 the Doaty family haven't thought about the consequences of Jamal's actions, well you are wrong. I can recall every night when Jamal was in the hospital he cried at night. He is truly remorseful. I can not justify the comment that was on MySpace because I wasn't the one who wrote it or read it. But I do believe if it was done to hurt anyone, when he was advise to remove he wouldn't have.If you also would have looked at his MySpace page anyone would clearly see this his religion isn't over night. High school Jamal was a devoted member of a Christian Athlete Organization and at the time believing in God "wasn't cool". I am not saying that what the judge sentence him is fair or unfair because I do not have to sit in that jail. And as for the comment about him having to speak to other, HE DOES THAT ALREADY WILLINGLY. Jamal is not a wanna be thug, far from that. He is the one in the group of "thug" that is talking others out of doing wrong. Jamal and I have never had the closest relationship so don't think I'm gonna defend him if he is wrong, I have always been his toughest critic.We have not lost anyone from a tragedy but we have lost someone unexpectedly therefore I understand your grief and disappointment. May God continue to bless the Kidd Family and those that comment without knowing the fact.

I no longer have sympathy for
the Kidd family. They seem to want to wallow in hate. I will pray for them, but only they can do the work needed to go on with their lives. Or they can remain bitter and continue to let it consume them. We reap what we sow. I hope Jamal makes a good future for himself after his sentence is served. The only thing holding the Kidd family down is themselves. They seem to have given themselves a life sentence.

We didnt ask for sympathy from anyone. I only posted what I posted b/c of the other smart comments about what he didnt do, that he really did do. We actually have the proof. And also the comment about what is fair and isnt fair. We dont have hate in our hearts toward the Doaty family. My mother told me being in that court room with this case is the hardest thing she has ever had to do. B/c she feels sorry for Mr. Doaty also b/c she knows he is young and she could see he was really sorry for what happened and she could tell he was scared. She sees it from both sides. As being a mother of 5. But what my point was, was for the people that are commenting what they think is fair, they need to think about the situation. We have lost someone forever. Not just for a few holidays. So for the person who made this stupid comment about they dont have any sympathy for our family thats ok. We need to be praying for you about this stupid comment you posted. Maybe you need to keep them to yourself until you are sitting with both family's and hearing everything. There is nothing anyone can do to change anything. This all happened for a reason. God has a plan for everyone. We may never know what it is but he does have a plan.

I'm sorry but I have read this over and over and I do not see where the Kidd Family is bashing anyone here....I believe it is bloggers who are doing the bashing. ( Do any of the other bloggers see it this way too )??

There was only one family memeber on here and that was his step-daughter ( which "MY" heart goes out to her ). I do not blame her for stepping up and speaking out on how she truely feels. This only shows me she is on her step to recovery from the greeving process. I do not know her but I am very proud of this child!!

Looks to me that the Doaty family is doing more of the stone throwing here....Just remember everything will come back to those who are in the wrong 10 times fold.....And you will live those times through your children and even maybe your grandchildren.....So in the end it is much better to speak positive towards others then negative. I would hate to know I passed down those folds to my kids and grandkids!!

Dons kids and family lost forever. Ya'll are going to be away from him for a christmas and a few short holidays. Hes going to be gone during the summer. Just like being gone to camp. Then guess what hes coming home. And the b/s about his christian attitude. His myspace page was turned into a christian gospel overnight. To the other "friend" "this family tried to portray Jamal to be this black kid from this so awful neighborhood in Thomaston." HERE WE GO! The race issue starts. This is not a matter of race but a matter of stupidity. HE PORTRAYED HIMSELF AS A THUG. As far as the webpages.. They should have been deleted permanently not deleted after telling all his buddys what his new alias was. Thomaston and Pike County are way too small. People talk. I will say this God is the biggest judge and the one who uses him as a crutch will pay in the end. GOD BLESS THE KIDD FAMILY!!!!!

I can only imagine the feelings/thoughts going through EACH of you (both parties) at this time. #1-> I grew up with Doaty. As a long-time friend/associate, I know that his intent was not in taking a life. True enough, it's not SAFE to drive while tired. But looking at a less SEVERE idea of it: People who sleep in class. Those who- believe it or not- nod off on the job. HORRIBLE SCENARIO: A mother who works 14 hours a day, gets off having to get the bills paid before 5, go to the store before everything closes, has to help her kids with homework, maybe she has home work to do herself, then has to prepare a meal
