Pike SAT scores top state

This year’s SAT scores show Pike County students posted gains in each category while Georgia’s scores continued to plummet.

The 2009 SAT college admission exam results were released Aug. 25 by the College Board. The 2009 scores are the highest ever tallied by Pike County students, according to Kevin Huffstetler, director of teaching and learning for Pike schools.

“We’re ecstatic to be moving in the opposite direction of the state,” Huffstetler said.

“I’m extremely excited, but I’m not surprised,” Pike High School principal Mike Maddox said of the SAT scores earned by his students. “Pike High School has a long history of great teachers and the best students in the state of Georgia.”

Let Me see, We're bragging about being 26 points out of 2400 points higher than a declining State average.

Am I the only one here that does'nt see the bragging point?

Hmmm, I wonder if Pike Co. is like the rest of the state, and the rest of the COUNTRY in cheating to get the scores higher, by having teachers erase wrong answers to correct ones, changing low scores to higher, giving the kids the answers, omitting the lowest test scores.
This has been PROVEN in Atlanta, and lots of other places around the country.
Screw the kids, we just want the $$$$$

Might want to know a little about the SAT since your reply is about it. We have nothing to do with the entire test! Don't go accusing when you don't even know what the topic is. We have some high achieving students, obviously some better than the rest of the state. Give them their due KUDOS! As usual, ignorant people automatically blame teachers, even when they have no idea about the subject!

The SAT test is given by the state, not our schools. The student's have to go to a testing facility to take it. You can not cheat on this test. You might be referring to the CRCT test that schools have been erasing answers and changing them before sending them in. Be proud of our student's accomplishments, 26 points might not sound like a lot but in the big scheme of things it is.

Let's see again is 33 points below the national average a bragging point? Don't think so. Is anyone not expected to score high encoraged to take the test? I wonder. I just don't see what the bragging is all about. The fact that We are below the national average does'nt say much at all about our schools.

You are right Mr. "Let's bash the kids of Pike County." Let's just tell them all to forget even trying to learn and tell teachers to just forget trying to improve anything and say forget it! I mean, I am sure that you went from birth to a high paying job without learning and working to better yourself. I am sure you had all of the answers and every thing you do, you succeed the very first time. You must be the most perfect person on Earth.

You cannot jump from being struggling to the best with a snap of the finger...I mean, most people can't, but you must be able to, since you do not feel we should be proud of the accomplishments that are being made.

Are we happy with the scores? Can we do better? Are we working improving them? Yes, Yes, and YES!!!!! Thank you to the parents, teachers, and students who do believe that it takes hard work and a sequence of events to reach our goals. And to those of you who think that you can just make a wish and reach your goal, more power to you. Maybe you can market it so you can leave this county and go to a different place to share your disgust!

Thank you Pike county teacher very well stated. I agree with you and the people that down our schools should be quite unless they have a child in it. If they do than show up for meetings , get to know your childs teachers. The time it takes you to post a comment you could have helped your child learn something new. I bet most of the children need your time and would love your attention. Thank you teachers for all you do and we are Proud for you to teach our children .

I am a grandmother off five students that are not in the Pike County School System. I can only wish their schools matched ours. Be Proud of our School System. Anonmous

My children have been in Pike County schools for 3 years now. My oldest just started Middle School. This is the first year we have seen a sign that any teachers really care. My daughter struggles with her academics but shines in many other areas. Thank God that there are teachers out there who finally see some potential in her. Her fifth grade year was horrible thanks to the "fine" teachers she had last year. I have NEVER been so disappointed and hurt for my child. I am still waiting on messages to be returned and meetings that were supposed to be scheduled after my daughter took the CRCT. I have been extrmely proactive in my daughters education and it seems that the teachers last year would have rather my daughter and I fallen off the face of the earth. Now, don't get me wrong, had my daughter been an all A's student, things would have been GREAT. Unfortunately, she is not. She needs a little extra TLC.
