In a softball tournament loaded with some of Georgia’s largest high schools and strongest softball programs the Lady Pirates varsity team proved they are worthy competition for all challengers.
The local girls began Friday night with an impressive 4-1 win over Region 2AAAAA Luella High School. The Lady Pirates leaned on the strong right arm of senior pitcher Ally Smith, who allowed only one hit in five innings of play. Saturday morning Pike faced talent laden Starr’s Mill, a AAAA school from Fayette County. The Lady Pirates took their opponent to an international tiebreaker before losing 3-1.
