Nominees for Heisman Award are announced
Zack Westerfield and Catherine Lovin are Pike County High School’s nominees for the Wendy’s Heisman Award.
Westerfield and Lovin completed online nominations and were chosen by the Wendy’s Heisman organization to represent PCHS in state judging. Both seniors are outstanding students on and off the field and are ranked number one and two in their senior class.
Lovin is a member of the varsity basketball and soccer teams. She plans to attend the University of Georgia this fall to study education or medicine. She has an outstanding academic record and was a Southern Rivers Energy delegate for the Washington Youth Tour in her junior year. She has a 4.17 GPA and has performed many hours of community service at her church and local organizations.
As varsity football captain, Westerfield helped lead the Pirates to a winning season. He received admission to the U.S. Air Force Academy and U.S. Naval Academy and has an outstanding academic record which includes a 4.14 GPA. In addition to his athletic and academic records, Westerfield has completed over 200 hours of community service and obtained Eagle Scout status as a Boy Scout.
Both students will receive the Wendy’s Heisman patch, a $10 Wendy’s gift card and will compete at the state level judging. Two students chosen to represent Georgia will complete at the national level.

They're good kids and represent Pike well. Zach has appointments to both the Naval and Air Force Academies.
