Pvt. second class Timothy Caleb Manley, son of Tim and Sharon Manley, received the Gen. George S. Patton Award for outstanding performance and leadership and the Excellence in Calvary Award in Charlie Troop 5-15, 5th Calvary, 15th Reg., while undergoing recruit training at Fort Knox, Ky., with the 194th Armored Brigade.
Pvt. Manley's achievements were recognized by commanding officers Capt. Benjamin M. Montoya and first Sgt. Larry R. Greenwell on Thursday, Dec. 11. He was recognized for keeping the highest traditions of the Army Calvary and was the platoon guide in charge of four platoons, about 120 soldiers.
Manley will continue Calvary scout training as a Blackhawk Assassin in 3-1 Calvary Div., 3rd ID, at Fort Benning in Columbus. He is a 2008 graduate of Pike County High School.
He has a sister Jessica, who is attending Gordon College; a brother, Lance Cpl. Jeremiah Manley, stationed at Camp LeJeune, N.C. who just returned from Iraq; and brother Boyd Astin.
