Suggestion for the mayor and Molena council.
Do away with the Molena Police Department, we are to small for the tax payers to support it.
Keep the police cars, paint them red with big letters on the side "FIRE CHIEF." Now park them around town like you park the empty police cars. Once FIRE sees the red cars it will scare them clear of Molena. No more fires ! No fee necessary, now you do not have to go up on the water rates to support a police department.
I agree, George. I am not sure a camera is even justified by the following facts.
Molena is located in west Georgia. Molena is between the Pike, Upson county. Molena has 1.73 square miles of land area and 0.02 square miles of water area. As of 2010, the total Molena population is 368, which has shrunk 22.53% since 2000. The population growth rate is much lower than the state average rate of 18.34% and is much lower than the national average rate of 9.71%. Molena median household income is $34,375 in 2008-2012 and has has shrunk by 15.48% since 2000. The income growth rate is much lower than the state average rate of 16.90% and is much lower than the national average rate of 26.32%. Molena median house value is $103,500 in 2008-2012 and has shrunk by -27.94% since 2000. The house value growth rate is lower than the state average rate of 40.65% and is much lower than the national average rate of 51.67%. As a reference, the national Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation rate for the same period is 26.63%.
Says it all Sheila.
Molena is not big enough for a police department. No other town in Pike has one except Zebulon. Traffic tickets are not now supporting the police department, the taxpayers are billed for this major ego of a few. Molena does have pretty police cars but Zebulon repossessed the Crown Victoria radio.
What else does Molena have to be repossessed?
