On Jan. 15, 1889, the first issue of the Pike County Journal – Zebulon’s first organ of enlightenment and edification – rolled off the press and into the hands of an awaiting public. Rev. Parry Lee was the editor. The typography and make-up judged from modern standards were inexcusably poor, the contents even worse, but a start had been made – the Journal was on its way.

This is your newspaper, your wheel, the editor is but a cog

Given the recent barrage of "Letter to the Editor" disclaimers in the paper, I wonder just how does the paper confirm identities of "letter" contributors. The recent "letter" posted a week or so ago claiming wrongdoings and lies about myself and Molena's City Council was formatted to appear as an article, by someone who has never addressed Council, who is not a Molena resident, and for that matter cannot be found in the state of Georgia. Very interesting indeed. I wish I knew so that their lies could be appropriately confronted and addressed for our residents.
