Pike schools in state’s top 20%

All four of Pike County’s schools have made Adequate Yearly Progress under Georgia’s preliminary release of those that have met or not met goals mandated by the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
They are among the top 20% of school systems in Georgia – one of only 46 – in which every school made AYP.

The key word here is ADEQUATE. That means just good enough. That's one step above being sorry. I can't be proud of Pike schools achieving a just good enough status, I want us to EXCELL!

"Excell" is an incorrect spelling of the verb excel. Excell is a computer program part of MS Office bundle.

Yes, the person you replied to made a spelling error. However, I would like to point out to you that Microsoft's program is spelled "Excel". See this page: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel/default.aspx?ofcresset=1

Before correcting someone else's spelling or grammatical errors, you may want to look at your own.

I normally don't post. However, I cannot stand to see someone point out someone else's mistake and then make one of their own in the same post.

I saw that mistake as soon as it hit the big screen but it was too late to take it back! I do know better, but I appreciate your good hearted chiding. We all make mistakes like that and as we get older sometimes the words look funny to you even when you know they are spelled correctly.

Did you read the article? We did excell. We are part of a small group of systems where every school made AYP. It doesn't mean "just good enough." "Adequate" is just part of the title, not a rating. You can be proud of Pike Schools. If we didn't have good teachers with good kids and administrators and superintendents who support us, we wouldn't have this distinction. I'm glad I work here under Dr. Duncan, Mr. John, and Mrs. Marion instead of other places where there is no support.

I must say you are right! I moved to Pike for the good schools! I am very proud to have my children attend Pike Co. schools! The teachers and administrators at the middle school really helped my son succeed after many years of inadequate teachers from a neighboring county. I applaud all the teachers we are so fortunate to have in Pike Co and thank you for devotion, dedication, and unique approach to educating our children.

Pike schools were great long before Duncan and his crew came on the scene and will be great long after they leave. I am deeply ashamed to have such a corrupt administration at the high school. I am also disappointed that Duncan has manipulated and coerced everyone possible in order to keep these three (Scott John, Jim Williams, and Tammy Marion) derelicts as administrators. Scott and Tammy have lied about the Jim Williams fiasco since it happened. Many of the teachers in the high school don't know the truth because Scott John has been lying since day one and daring those of us that know the truth to say anything to anyone. Teachers, I hope you seek the whole truth and not just accept the propoganda that has been spewed by Scott John and Tammy Marion for the last half of the school year. There is another side to this story that has been suppressed for quite some time. Scott John is an easy guy to work for and very likeable (terrible disciplinarian) but that doesn't give him a license to endanger students and teachers in order to cover up what Jim Williams was doing. Scott doesn't have the right to push a good man out of his job simply because that man reported Scott's indiscretions to the Superintendent. Leaders should live there lives far above the gutter where this man is chosing to live his, especially leaders of impressionable children. Folks, this is not a popularity contest, this is your children's future.

The reason for this 'achievement', as with ALL schools in America, is that in order to get these 'top' scores, teachers are mandated to teach ONLY what is only on these state tests.
No creativity, no individualism. Only spoon feeding info into the students like robots to MEMORIZE, not LEARN. So they can pass the test so the school can GET MORE MONEY.
And what's more, the schools DUMB DOWN the curiculum so it makes it easier to pass. Why do you think the US is WAY down on the totem pole compared to other countries in education?
Most in the education field will not tell you the true story. Your children are not being as educated as you think.
I USED to be proud of Pike Schools. Until my daughter needed special ed help and they fought me to no end to keep this from happening. An indirect result of the suicide of Allen Eldridge. Right, Grant Allison??

We moved to Pike specifically for the schools and I couldn't be more satisfied. I think we have a great group of teachers, students and parents. GO PIKE!!!

Sorry, I choose to live my life not believing the supposed facts that are simply personal vendettas. The people of this county are so concerned about "becoming Clayton County," but the BOE did just that last night. They meddled in school business based on nothing more than rumors. They have NO evidence of wrong doing, and I have yet to see ANY evidence of wrong doing, just supposition. This school system was just turned up-side-down because of rumors and vendettas. Way to think of the kids, BOE.

This county is barely in the 20th century right now, and those advances are because of Dr. Duncan and his staff. Let him take Pike County into the 21st century for the sake of the children of this county. Most of them will move away, and they need the skills to be able to compete globally. The world is not a small town. Stop fighting the school system and try working with it.

I choose to send my child here when I don't have to. Why? Because of the great strides being made by this small system. This is what I want to be a part of, not some small-minded, "good ole boy" system.

There are eye-witnesses that are just waiting for the opportunity to give their testimony regarding the way Scott John attempted to cover up the Jim Williams sex-ting affair. This is not rumor, it is fact. Do you think Duncan has allowed these people to testify before the board? I think not, he did his own investigating and parceled out half-truths as he always does. The man should be a politician. Thank you BOE for standing up to this manipulating tyrant and his gang of thugs. Talk about "Good ole boys". These guys will kill, steal, beg, and borrow for each other. They would betray their own mothers before they would each other. Again, thank you BOE for having the courage to stand up to these bullies.
According to "Pike Parent" Duncan and his staff are bringing us into the 21st century. The list of accolades above are more than laughable. Next you'll be telling us that Duncan invented the internet. The only thing the Duncan Administration is teaching our kids is that it acceptable to lie, coerce, philander, intimidate, and manipulate. He's a real role-model. Sounds like Chicago, gangster, style politics to me.
"Pike Parent" Dr. Duncan is not the school system and I'll continue to fight him and his corruption as long as it takes. Now get your head out of Duncan's butt and get on board with those whose care about the education, sanctity and security of every child in this county. Duncan and his bunch are drive-by politicians who see this county as a stepping stone in their respective careers. Pike is great because the majority of the people in Pike are great. Don't attribute Pike's current and future greatness to this scoundrel and his cronies.

Duncan and his group are bad news but they are falling apart...Duncan's "own" are starting to turn and it wont be long before it all falls...Now Tammy Bell and Greg Greene...how much longer can they stay of Duncan's chopping block???

When I was a student of the middle school, way back in 1980-something, a female teacher divorced her husband, also a Pike Middle School teacher, and married a 15 year old male student. She kept her job.

Times, they aren't really a-changing.
