I don't live inside the Meansville city limits so I am not sure what difference my voice at a city council meeting would have. However I do know that if the city of Meansville does not join the co-operative effort to serve all of the citizens of Pike County there will be no county funds to support their FD which means no money for the FD. Meansville residents pay no city tax and how the city council thinks they can run a FD with no money is a question I would like the answer to.
Congradulations Meamsville.
You do not need the CM Marro running your fire department. Marro wants to control the fire service as proven by dumping Tyree for a Clayton County Lt.
You made the right move.
Watch Molena, their fire service will suffer at the hands of Marro's control.
Twenty-two firefighters? Someone has been misled. Listening, I hear about three or four on a good day. Hard to believe "best" or "strongest" with those numbers. The story is missing something. What happens now?
I'm not sure of all the details but I believe that the cities that unite with the county fire district will be given a lower ISO rating. Meaning that your home owners insurance will go down. I don't know about you but mine is through the roof because all we have is "volunteer" fire fighters.
You are correct. No one's
ISO will get worse and the majority will improve.
By the way, don't trash your volunteer service unless you're out there helping. Nationwide 52% of departments are exclusively volunteer. Another roughly 30% are combination volunteer/paid. Statistics show that a large portion of those have very low numbers of actual paid firefighters. They might only have one person in a station per shift.
So, come out, help out, and save yourself and your neighbors a little tax money. Remember, the economy isn't in the best of shape right now. We'll be happy to have you.
Let me be clear, I AM NOT TRASHING the volunteer firefighters at all and apologize if you took it that way. They are critical and very important to our community and I am happy to have them. I'm just saying that my home owners insurance rating is exceptionally bad because I only have volunteer firefighters in my general area. My insurance would drop considerably if my city unites with the county. Every dollar counts in such a bad economy.
I applaud Meansville for not joining the county. And as for funding the FD, the citizens still pay COUNTY taxes and will get funding from the county if they ask for it. I also hear that Molena is NOT going through with their initial proposal and are not going to go under the county either. Looks like FAT BOY Marro is losing the cities as quickly as he got them on board.
It is good to see Meansville is not going to let Fat Boy Marro push something down their throat. I hope Pike County people have had enough of Marro. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
