Pike County commissioners denied a non-revenue work detail contract for a cleanup crew at the courthouse, held a lively discussion about approved vehicles at the Zebulon Speedway, heard about upcoming LMIG road improvements and discussed several roof repair projects at their Wednesday, Aug. 7 meeting.
I live within Zebulon city limits not far from courthouse square. Each time there is an event at Pike schools a couple of miles away on Hwy 19 S, I hear clearly and until late p.m. that there are voices booming over the microphone even though I am unable to always understand what the announcers are saying. Those crowds continuously roar when things go well! I likewise hear the band playing with all gusto and drums beating … boom boom boom! All very loud. Pike County fans cheer on “them thar Pirates!”
Not once has it occurred to me to register a complaint against the school system because I am fully aware that these events are not daily and ARE for the full benefit of the entire community. My guess is that the residents who live closer to the school complex also do not complain for similar reasons.
Wouldn't it just be great to invite activity INTO our County versus our seeming need to always be ruling out...ruling out...please! Life is short. Besides which, I did not read that these races were going to be daily nor even weekly???? And ya know what, even IF…it’s not forever.
Wouldn't it be a new trick for us to choose to win both the war AND the battle for a change?
Now that....Miss Jeannie Hallmark is a well written and thought-out comment. Could I interest you in running for office? I would say political office, but your comment alone has proven that "you are too intelligent for politics."
