After several votes, lengthy debate and public cajoling at the June 10 meeting, the Pike County commission decided which projects will go before voters in the upcoming SPLOST referendum.

This is AWful 400,000 for the Recreation Authority.My son told me about this last week ,I could not beleive it.We should do like the person said onthe comments about not buying any thing from China.Dont buy any thing in Pike county.

Why hurt innocent merchants? did you attend the SPOLT meeting to put in your two cents worth? The local businesses have nothing to do with this. Your idea is like getting mad at your wife and then going out and kicking the dog.

SPLOST is a tax that enables non-property owners to share in our costs. Otherwise property owners will have to cover all expenses. That's not fair since renters use our services too.

I totally agree with the SPLOST but hoping no one is stupid enough to think that our property taxes arent going to be going up as well??? I have always heard that you cant get blood from a turnip BUT....

I agree with SPLOST "if" we need all those projects. With so many people out of work and businesses having such a hard time, it's time to stop and rethink some of these projects. Perhaps wait until the economy is on the upswing. Let's ask ourselves if we can do without some of the projects for now. If we have to sit down and try to come up with something to spend this money on, then I say we didn't need it that bad to start with...

If you have lived here for many years,you don't expect all of the services the newcomers want. And why would anyone want to spend SPLOST on flowers at this time? Again, I say wait until the economy turns around before we go crazy on spending for unnecessary projects.

Thank you. Meet at Lamar County Commissioners. New Barnesville-Lamar County Fire Headquarters. New fire station is built. How many paid firefighters on duty?

Fire chief want 9 or 12 fulltime paid. If we think we can go for 9 or 12. The chairman Jay noted applying for 9 or 12. The idea of 9 or 12 firefighters staying at the station 24 hours. He noted the engine and ambulance now in Milner will be moved to the new station. Those at the Parker Branch Road station will then move to Milner, freeing up the Parker Branch station for occupation by volunteers to live there under the rent free plan.

If Molena gets any money I hope the MAYOR, we want call any names does something for the CITY for a change.. LOOK AT CONCORD how BEAUTIFUL it is, the mayor there has done a WONDERFUL JOB in Concord..
Look at the nice stuff they have.. Molena all they do is spray weed killer everywhere, NO NICE PLANTS DOWN HERE, IT IS PLAIN UGLY LOOKING....
She puts the money in the bank and does nothing with it.. WHERE IS THE NEW FIRE DEPT WE WERE GETTING MAYOR.. WHAT ABOUT THIS HOT WATER (UNSAFE) WE ARE DRINKING DOWN HERE, WHEN YOU GOING TO FIX THAT... I hope next election she is voted out. She is worthless..

The Garden Club does a lot of what you see. We are blessed with wonderful voluteers.

Well you guys really have a very special place there, LOOKS GREAT.. All we get is weed killer
and a mayor that does care what the city looks like. You guys have GAZEBO'S next to your walking track, WE HAVE WEED KILLER! When you enter the city of Molena we used to have pretty flowers all we have is weeds and weed killer..
The Mayor really should wake up and tell the grounds keeper to fix the place up, she is a tight wad anyway.. Molena is dull and UGLY since the new MAYOR HAS TAKEN OVER.. Sometimes I go to Concord to walk the track there, such a pretty place to get away.. NICE TO KNOW you have a mayor and a garden club to keep that place looking good.. NEVER SEEN OUR MAYOR DO anything BUT SIT ON THE MONEY WE GET FROM GRANTS TO FIX UP THINGS................
WE are still drinking (unsafe) water here. When is that going to be fixed MAYOR??? lIKE I said she is useless..

I agree with#3.1owner#2But what good isit goingto do if its wasted.What about the fireDept voluntary going out geting donation I think they could put this money to good use . I always give this is a worthy cause.

I am from Lamar County but always read the journal to keep up with Pike county as I am in the process of moving there. I just have to say that one of the things I have been admiring over these last few months was the low crime rate. The Sheriff dept section is always relativly small so I must say I am curious as to why Pike county needs a 3.5 million dollar judicial complex. I wish I had moved to your wonderful town sooner, I would've loved to have gone to some of these meetings and hear what the justification is for that?

Approved!!! Barnesville and Lamar County okays fire headquarters construction. $703,045. New fire headquarters on Roberta Drive. On the west side of the existing rodeo arena near the current wetland trail. The groundbreaking for the new Barnesville-Lamar County station.

12,500 square feet "fire headquarters".

5,400 square feet " 4 trucks".
4,600 square feet "firehouse".
2,500 square feet " office, tower with a training and meeting room".

You need to be commenting on the Herald Gazette. Nobody here much gives a hoot about Lamar County's fire service. They don't serve us here. And thank God we don't have to pay for them.

I don't care. I hear Lamar County Commissioners. Barnesville-Lamar County firefighters vs Zebulon-Pike County firefighters. Talk about job. How many paid career firefighters? Mostly career.
