Mindi Renae Bishop of Zebulon faces 25 years to life in prison for engaging in an alleged act of sodomy with a 15-year-old boy.

Bishop, who is on leave from her job at the tax commissioner's office, has been granted bond in the amount of $50,000.

My heart breaks for the child involved in this tragedy. Excuse me, I should say the children. If all the truth comes out, I truly believe there will be multiple victims. Even the children that enjoyed the apple but never get legally involved or publicly exposed, will suffer. Time served on Mindi's part will not take away the emotional pain, scarred minds, and sleepless nights that so many have suffered. Punishment for Mindi, yes...peace of mind for the victims and families, never.

This is comical to read. First, how do you get a cell phone to video anything while in jail? Sounds like a lot of BS to me. I will also say that a 15 year old boy could have lied about all of this. They have been known to brag about having sex when in fact, they have not. I am curious as to what kind of evidence will be used against her in a court of law. If she is not found guilty our "judicial system" will have ruined the lives of her and her children.

the cell video was (from what I heard) is what got her busted, it wasnt made in the jail cell. I think the poor kid is damned if you damned if you dont. If he lied he looks stupid, and well for telling... same difference. Guess we will all see. I really do hate this for her family.

NO< the video was not done while in jail it is the evidence and there are several out there but one imparticular going around. He is not jusr bragging the videos in which everyone is talking about was found by an adult and is turned in as states evidence. I agree you are innocent until proven guilty but I beleive there is a pretty solid case against her.

Ms. Tolley, the best attorney in Pike? Surrounding Counties? I find it hard to believe that Ms. Mindi would allow just any attorney to represent her in this "criminal trial"..I can only imagine that she would probably hire an attorney who has extensive defensive experience in cases similar to hers. There is not an attorney within 30 miles of Pike that would be able to "Copperfield" those charges. I think the local attorneys could handle a jaywalking defense, maybe even a DUI..bot aggravated child molesting and sodomy? If this is anything like a typical Pike county investigation(I'm Laughing) there probably wasnt one. The sheriff in my opinion only enforces the law when he sees fit to. The investigators are incompetent at best. Most people do not realize all it takes is one mad mother making an accusation to get this ball rolling and create a nightmare for this woman. I do not know if she is innocent or guilty but in pike I'm sure they will stack the charges on her and hope for a plea because when it comes down to it Pike officials seem to always have problems when it comes proving charges in an actual trial.

I think this whole situation is about as sickening as it comes. It goes to show that you never know anyone. Me being a victim of child molestation myself do not find any of this funny. Yes most men would say at that age they would love to have that experience. I think that you might be missing the point. There should be hundreds of posts on this blog from people infuriated about this type of behavior in our community. Lets not forget about this same problem in our school system. Unfortunately it seems to take some people talking off topic to get some folks riled. We as citizens and parents should be mad as hell that this happens in our community as well as the lack of concern that this is a problem. I think you hit the nail on the head. I originally started following this story due to the entertainment factor. I am a few years younger than Mindi and have a hard time trying to figure out why she would have been attracted to a teenage boy. I have seen her in the tag office and could not help but wonder how long it took her to get ready in the morning. It has shown me that just because someone has a "pretty" or "honest" face, does not mean they are trustworthy. I hear she's had a hard life? Really? So did she think a crime would somehow lessen the effects of her past? Or did that "hard life" somehow cloud her judgement? hmmm...I don't think so. Its just another desperate attempt to relive her teenage years. What a shame... This criminal, (yes people) brings a whole new meaning to desperate. Even though she is not that bright (obviously) she knew her actions were wrong. A crime was committed (alledgedly and probably) and she should be held accountable. Lets send a clear message to these other "women" or "men" who prey on our children! Mindi, I will be sure to send you some mascara girl..you know the waterproof kind...so you wont have streaks down your cheeks..

Surprisingly I do agree with some of what you say. This is not a cut and dry issue. Take for instance: a 16-year old boy dates a 15-year old girl for two years. Let’s say they become sexually active during this time. Now, when the boy turns 18, if the two engage in sexual activity by our laws he is an adult and can be charged with child molestation or statutory rape. I believe this to be wrong in many instances. All of these cases need to be taken case by case. As far as what Mindi faces, I have never spoken my opinion of how much time she should face. I don’t really know if I could “ name her suggested time”. You see I’m not a law maker just a pissed off citizen and parent that so many people make light of this type of situation and turn a blind eye that this happens in our community. I cannot say that I doubt that the male in question was not a “horny” boy. What I am saying is that if this were a 37-year old man that had sex with a “horny” underage girl, there would be a little bit more of a stir about it. As far as evidence, I’m sure someone has thought of tracing the video back to the original source. I would hope so.

As far as my tax dollars: I think they would be better spent on putting her in jail than paying her salary. Now that really does piss me off. And it should make you angry as well since you are a “Pike Resident”…

It seems there are many immature people in pike county who wish to blow this whole issue out of proportion in an attempt to make themsevles feel better about their immorality.
Remember back a couple of years...A 37 y/o teacher got pregnant by her 16 y/o student. She went to prison for 2 years. When she got out her and her former student got married. She "molested" her student, got pregnant, and only got 2 years.
So do you really think that Mindi Bishop will recieve 25 years? I dont think so. The court system is sexist. A male child molester will die in prison. A female child molester will spend a couple of years there. That is a fact. Everyone needs to write to congress about this instead of blogging about it.

However, after some research I have found that child sexual abuse (molestation) is a form of child abuse in which a child is abused for the sexual gratification of an adult or older adolescent. In addition to direct sexual contact, child sexual abuse also occurs when an adult indecently exposes their genitalia to a child, asks or pressures a child to engage in sexual activities, displays pornography to a child (perhaps the alleged cell phone video???), or uses a child to produce child pornography.

I would just like to say that yes Mindi did a stupid and crazy thing and she should have to pay for messing with a teenage little boy,but he should have to serve some kind of time for going with a married woman with children. I have students at Pike County Schools and I'm not going to say which school, but the staff at these schools need to realize that they are being seen by students when they want to run around on their spouses.
The principals,asst.principals,the bus transportation director,and all the others need to know that I have had students ask me personally what is going on with certain staff members because of what they have seen them doing with each other.
The reason I'm writing this is to say that yes what Mindi did was very wrong and she needs to definitely pay for her actions,but at the same time those in the schools need to be punished for the things they are doing in the system. Thank you, somebody who cares about the students.

BTW: if you call the county clerks office you will find out that the case is still pending. It will go to the Grand Jury for a decision on whether there is enough evidence to proceed to a hearing or if not, it will then be dropped. This jury won't meet until either this October, or at the latest next April.

Also, they did move out of Pike County..her kids started a new school, but from what I gather they don't have any idea about their mother. I can only think that b/c this happened over the summer months they were sheltered from all the talk about it.

Yes, i said scott free!!! well its her fault that they have to suffer!!! she did it!!! so she should pay the price with jail time!!and actually i am glad that she moved away maybe she will leave all these men ALONE!! and quit ruining marriages including her own!! boy do i feel sorry for her husband!!

Thankful i dont live in Pike Co.- wouldn't move there for a billion dollars! You ppl eat each other alive- I know her family and the 16 yr old and i'll say this--Both families are messed up! The adults involved all have tough pasts ( Mindi esp.sad)she's heart ache after heart ache in her life. Not saying the right decisions were made by anyone involved, but till u walk in someones elses shoe's OR know ALL the facts be careful how u judge! I do know for a fact that its not her in the video. Hope all the kids involved can get past the uglyness and learn a valuable lesson from all this- Forgiveness is good too.

Thankful... I agree with you this is a very sad situation... And yes- I moved to Pike and it is unfortunate that everyone is like this. At each other like a pack of wolves. Any situation like this is hard to deal with. There are obviously issues on both ends of this spectrum. Right now is when we should all be coming together, praying that A. She realizes why what she did was wrong and seeks forgiveness B. Her family learns how to cope. No matter how "bad" a person is when its your mother, father, child, sibling, etc. it still hurts. C. The children involved in the "act". I do find it difficult to believe that he was completely innocent. He was curious... while it def. does not justify her actions... I do feel that all people involved should be held accountable. And instead of everyone pointing fingers-we need to stop and think how this could be our family...falling apart at the seams. I can't imagine as a parent how it must feel to know such a thing was done to your child "your baby". therefore, I do not find the parents at fault for being angry. The truth is- they handled it a heck of a lot better than I coud have... But at 15,16,17- these boys are not innocent. Same scenario with teachers and students... while the adults should know better and keep to themselves... the "children" know the difference between right and wrong as well. It's one thing to be approached and taken advantage of. Its a totally different story when you welcome it! I am praying for all families involoved. It truly is so sad! I am thankful that God is a forgiving God! While He will be just and you will be held accountable- any sin can be forgiven.
As for the rest of you...GROW UP!
