IF THE SHERIFF DEPT WAS DOING RD CHECKS ALLOT OF THIS WOULD NOT HAPPEN, IT SEEMS THAT THE SHERIFF DEPT LEADER DOESN'T LIKE ROAD CHECKS... HE HAS HIS OFFICERS SITTING ON HWY 19N AND 19S ALL THE TIME WHILE THE REST OF THE COUNTY GOES LACKING...CRIME RATE IS UP. HWY 109 WEST HAS ALLOT OF THIS TYPE OF CRIME GOING ON.. DRUGS COMING OUT OF WOODBURY ALONG WITH DUI'S AND SPEEDING... HWY 109 IS REALLY BAD AROUND MOLENA... SEEMS THE SHERIFF'S DEPT DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THIS END OF THE COUNTY.
BE SURE YOU READ CAREFULLY BEFORE COMMENTING! I LIVE ON HWY 109 AND UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE SAYING ABOUT SPEEDING, BUT IF YOU PAY ATTENTION YOU WILL SEE DEPUTY'S MOST ANYTIME.
No amount of road checks can stop this type of acciddent. Unless you do road checks 24 hours per day 7 days per week on every highway. and between every intersection. I worked as a deputy sheriff for anothr couinty and was struck and knocked 80 feet by a drunk driver. After a year and a half in a cast I am sure that the guy taht hit me had no intention to run into myself and a trooper. The Ironic part is that the courts found him not gulity.
I think our law enforcement do an adequate job and I appreciate what they do for the citizens. With that being said, about a year ago during summer break my teen sons were at home while my wife and I were at work. We received a frantic call from my oldest son. There was a helicopter hovering over our house, 4-wheelers in the yard and cop cars everywhere. My children were ordered out of the house and drug agents came in my home without a search warrant. That’s what I said “without a search warrant”. We arrived home and the cops were nowhere to be found. It took us 15 minutes to get home. If something was found, I don’t think it would have been confiscated and cleared in 15 minutes. The kids were all shook up as you could imagine. When we called the sheriff’s office for an explanation we were told that the agents in the heli spotted plants growing in buckets in the woods. We were told that our house was the nearest house to the buckets, so they swarmed our home. Well guess what… there were no arrests in the paper. I never saw the buckets or plants that were spotted from the air. We never received an apology kiss my ass or anything from the Dept. We were told that the agents discovered whom the plants belonged to. To this day I don’t believe what we were told by the sheriff’s office. This situation has bothered me. It has the makings of the infamous Neal Street shooting in Atlanta. I wish someone would police the police………
I have never been the kind that says,"You should get a lawyer and sue." But Lamar, you should have gotten a lawyer and sued! That is complete reckless and uncalled for behavior. When they legalize pot, next month, maybe we can get a good deal on some of these extra helicopters. I need one to get up my driveway since the DOT finished with it anyway.
i considered doing that but i thought it was a lot to go through for an explanation and apology. that's all i wanted out of it. i received neither. the agents that entered my home did a walk through to see if anyone else was there and that was it. as far as i could tell they touched nothing. if they had tossed the place you bet i would have hired a lawyer!!!
We will still go in halves on a helicopter so we can keep an "Eye in the Sky" on Teen Challenge Hill. You notice the commissioners are still mute on the little escape episode. Go figure!!!
We can eliminate auto accidents...here's the plan. More horsepower. Everyone rides horses just like The Good Old Days. People that are laid off at the car plants...plant hay, we will need it. You oil countries, stick your oil up your turbans. I will name my horse Bullet. When obama gets through it will be the only one left.
This kind of accident is through no blame to law enforcement. They cannot predict accident locations ahead of time.
I had a tragic event take place in my life also. And Pike Co. Sheriff office has done nothing to make things better for my family who lost a loved one. The only thing they have done is let the guy get away with murder. This guy was totally guilty and admitted to it but yet the Sheriff didnt even do his job fully. There was lies told from the Sheriff's dept. and more just so this guy could get away. Why was this done and why isnt this guy in any trouble and it not handled properly? I can tell you why. B/c his family works for Pike Co. And you know what the said part of it all is. My 5 yr old sister now has to live without her father who she worshiped. His life was taken to soon and no one has to pay for it. There is alot of family who has been hurt and there lives changed drastically because of this tragic accident.
Waller next door in Lamar County doesnt play that crap... he's locking them up left and right. i dont want L.County's crime rate or problems but he seems to be making a dent in the riff-raff next door. i only hope they dont move west...
Spill the facts. Make it public. If you are right, notify a lawyer or Channel 5. This is not the old days when the law could hide behind badges. Tell it all, Honey, tell it all.
By the way, I have the utmost respect for Sheriff Jimmy Thomas. His department has always responded professionally and promptly when I have needed to call. I know it is irrelevant, but he is also good-looking and happily married. But why do I care. I love Simon Cowell. Everyone else can go jump in a lake, swallow a snake and come back up with a belly ache.
yeah I saw it. I'm so glad Kris won, even if they were falling all over themselves for Adam. I think Kris was more like us. From the sticks...or at least a down home kinda guy. For real did you see where that woman choked Simons ex? Fame has its price I'd rather be here.
Kris was my choice also. Adam probably had a singing contract in his pocket before he left last night. Kris seemed so humble, I wanted him to get his shot at fame. Keith Urban looked so fine, I considered stepping out on Simon for a minute.(The bloggers will curse us out at any minute now for talking about Idol. LOL. Let me go gather more facts about Idol for you and I'll be back. Keep Simon's Ex on the down low. I think I got by with it.
My husband is a deputy and I can say that he rides these roads and tries to keep everyone safe. They can only do what they are told to do by their supervisor who is told by theirs. Chain of command is what happens at the S.O. I suggest as a resident to talk to the head person if you have a problem. The traffic units are in charge of road blocks and anything traffic related. The road division only answers calls and such.
I don’t want to come across as not supporting our officers or law enforcement. A couple of years ago my youngest was involved in a serious ATV accident. All of the deputies, a state trooper and the paramedics that responded to the scene were very professional and did an outstanding job. Many times our public servants do not receive the credit that they deserve. I wish I knew all of their names so my I could thank them personally.
I just don’t like the idea of police coming into someone’s home without a warrant. I don’t like the idea of being told that it is a matter of police business and to “forget about it”. I have not forgot about it and as miniscule as it may be, until now I have chosen to voice my opinion on this matter with a simple vote.
As sad as it may seem, life typically goes like this: "When I am right no one remembers, when I am wrong, no one forgets." I appreciate your bringing both sides of Pike's public Service into the open, Lamar. There is no such thing as a simple VOTE! Way to go!
Your husband is probably doing a fine job. They do not have crystal balls to predict where accidents are about to happen. Piper crossed over into the wrong lane, a deputy cannot predict that...get real.
I have high respect for the Sheriff in Pike County.
I agree that the drugs coming into Pike County need to be watched a little more, with more routine road checks.
The traffic from Meriwether county needs to be monitored a little more. Not only coming in on Hwy 18 there is more back roads than that to get into Pike out or Meriwether.
You can have road checks everyday and that is not going to stop STUPID people from drinking and driving, so you are bound to have innocent people get hurt or killed because of someone elses stupidity.
Mr. Walter Geiger, your hard work and devotion to reach out and communicate with the people of Pike is quite successful. Your site is a excellent vehicle to carry postings. Keep up the good work and please post the Obits of the Pollcat passing.
Thank you

The time has come for the demise of the Pollcat. It is not a sad time for our community but a time to celebrate. Maybe now the administrator can afford a telephone to call his assistant administrator and they can talk all day rather than tell each other how great they are on the Pollcat all day. 6500 hits by two people nicknamed Sorefingers.
I might not agree with everything Ms. Tolley has to say but at least i'm not afraid to sign my name to let someone know that i dont agree. it sure is easy to hide behind the mask of ANON isnt it.
Its been my experience that people that talk about it all the time are the ones who aren't doing it. So yeah Sheila a soapbox will probably do for anon.
I want Lamar Towery to get into the political arena. I am very serious. He has enough age to be life-smart and enough youth to be street-wise. He has two children, so he would have a priority for the future generations.
while i am truly flattered, you know that's not my style. politics have ruined many good men and women. there are too many folks around here that want daisy smellers and tip-toe-ers. when the nay sayers hear the truth they get offended and want to rail-road their opposition out of the county. while i am thick skinned and this bothers me very little, i dont have a magic wand to turn the rocks into smarter rocks.

This article does not state that anyone has been charged with this accident. Yet, it specifically states that, "Police said a Toyota Four-Runner driven by Timothy Piper of Thomaston hit a Ford Explorer driven by William Dunn of Atlanta. Police said Piper was traveling southbound when he apparently crossed the center line and entered the northbound lanes of Highway 19." WHY HAVEN'T CHARGES BEEN FILED AGAINST PIPER?

Did you fly to L.A.last night and choke Simons ex-girlfriend? Inquiring minds want to know.... LOL
