Pike County commissioners made public last Friday the names of the final three candidates in consideration for the position of county manager.
The final three are Raymon Gibson of McDonough, former city administrator of Stockbridge; Richard Darrell Hampton of Jefferson, former county manager and clerk of Jackson County; and Michael B. Phillips of Greenville, S.C., recent city manager of Corbin, Ky., and a former city manager in Rincon.

Gibson is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and the Georgia Chapter of the American Planners Association. His experience in administration, planning, zoning and urban issues includes posts with Henry County, McDonough, Dalton, North Reading, Mass., and several cities in Canada. He holds a bachelor’s degree in urban studies from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario; a diploma in municipal planning and development from Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology, also in Hamilton; and several certifications in planning from the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government.
Hampton is a member of the International City-County Management Association and has been a member and officer in the Georgia City-County Management Association. His experience includes manager and administrative posts in Jackson, Stephens and Sumter counties; Morrow and Americus, and as a regional representative for the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. He has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Columbus College and has done graduate work in public administration at Auburn University. He has attended certification and leadership training courses with the Association County Commissioners of Georgia.
Phillips’ experience includes administrative and management posts in Appling County; Greenville County and Chester in South Carolina; and Brevard, N.C. He has a bachelor’s degree from Furman University and a master’s from Clemson and earned his associate’s degree in law enforcement technology and business administration at Greenville Technical College.
Georgia law requires public notice of the final three candidates, to inform citizens and give any candidate an opportunity to withdraw. They also are required by state law to consider the candidates for at least 14 days, which ends July 13. The commission’s executive session at Friday’s meeting lasted more than 20 minutes.
