Pike County commissioners have set an initial calendar for planning the upcoming budget to fund county operations and expenses from July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013.

The county finance department will input that data into a computer program.
Department heads, constitutional officers, elected officials and component units will meet individually with Sawyer, the county clerk and finance officer about respective budget requests from Feb. 27 to March 2.
For the next several weeks, the budget will be altered to meet each departments’ needs as possible. When the final adjustments are made, the fiscal year 2012-13 budget code will be submitted to the commissioners.
After it is advertised in the newspaper as required by law, budget hearings are set for May 23 at 1 p.m. and May 30 at 6 p.m., with final adoption of the budget and a third reading set for June 13 at 5 p.m.
After the proposed budget is accepted by the commission, Pike’s five-year millage history will be advertised for two weeks and the notice of intent to set the Pike County millage rate will also be published.
A special called meeting to set the tax levy is planned for July 11 at 5:30 p.m. That information must be submitted to the tax commissioner for delivery to the Georgia Department of Revenue before Aug. 1.
