Zebulon businesses are ready for a season of scares as some hard working – and frightening – scarecrows stand outside as part of a Downtown Development Authority sponsored scarecrow contest.

we had planned on going into the square on monday and trick or treating so i hope that everyone has candy for us!

Remember grown folks...things are not as they were in your days of youth. I have listed cautionary steps you should take in order to comply with our rules and regulations of Our New World:


1. Be aware that many municipalities have established special dates for trick-or-treating. For safety reasons, these dates are never on Halloween. Some of them are closer to Easter.

2. Make sure each child is carrying a fire extinguisher and wearing a head-mounted smoke detector.

3. Trick-or-treat candy may have been tampered with, so you should take it away from your children, check it carefully, then eat it.

4. Never allow your children to trick-or-treat at night, or in dangerous areas such as outdoors.

Excellent recommendations. However you left out a bullet proof vest, GPS reverse position device, a cluster flare for location and escape smoke charges.

I believe in preparation for Halloween so let's continue to equip the young ones

1. Survival chainsaw. Weighing in at 6 oz, this flexible 2 handled saw can be easily carried in the trick or treat bag and is a must for urban survival.

2. Collapsible water bottle- but fill to 90% capacity so it remains strong and flexible. Water is always a must when venturing out. Prepare for catastrophe, kids!

3. SureFire LX2 flashlight w/ lanyard system for easy hands-free transport. 15 lumen lowbeam or 200 lumen high beam.

Now you're ready, kid.
