County says no to Sunday sales

Pike County commissioners struck down a request to approve a referendum to possibly allow Sunday sales of alcohol in the county by a 3-2 vote at the Aug. 30 meeting. Nawaid Sadid of the Mountain View Convenience Store asked the commission to consider a resolution to call for authorization of Sunday package sales as allowed by Senate Bill 10.

Thank you Tammy and Don for your vote. The BOC is too big for it's britches. They should have allowed the voters to decide. Oh Tommy, put your greasy pies where the sun don't shine on Sundays. Powers and Mangham cant read Senate Bill 10 anyway.

I have never understood how something can be illegal one day a week, but if we are gonna' do it, let's do it right. Let's start with bank robbery because I could use some extra cash for the whacked up 401K. Car jacking as well, I like those new Hemi Challengers. Let's make speeding illegal only on Sunday. You might be late for church, but at least you wouldnt be late for work during the week.

All the hypocrites stock up their booze on Saturday. This way they can project they are true Christians when they show up at church on Sunday with a headache and hangover.At least they didn't buy it on the sabbath. As far as the impotent BOC is concerned, they hang onto the ways of the Old Democrat South: No drinking, no fighting, no intimacy, no gambling, no cursing...No anything on Sunday but fried chicken, NasCar and the Atlanta Braves on Sports South. I sure like my Sundays off. "Hey Sweet Cheeks, bring me another Bud Lite and let's watch Dale Jr. run 15th again." We got to go back to church at 6.

That's good info to have Mayhem. I'm sure your day is very bright. I suppose you know which street corner to check out or which door to knock on to get a daily supply.

I have given up crack for my new addiction. Gambling!!! Nothing like some quick bucks to be made at my local conveinence store playing video poker. Which has me confused. If you are going to run an illegal gambling operation 7 days a week in Pike County why wouldn't you go ahead and sell alcohol illegally on Sunday also?

You better "hope not" nobody rats me out now. You might pull up at your favorite little spot and find a chain on the door. Happy motoring!!!

In a Democracy the citizens get to vote on public issues. But not in Pike because we have three (3) pansy commissioners that two of them forgot they are up for re-election.

The Citizens elected those County Commissioner to represent us. You don't like it put Your name in the Hat and run Yourself two of the three are up for re-election next year.

We elect Commissioners so we don't have to have an election everytime an issue comes up.

Sunday sales.........let's talk about this for 50 more years. We should not sell it to Seventh Day Adventist on Saturday. AND all the Monks with the vows of silence...they cannot speak up folks!

This will solve the problem...............just give all alcoholic beverages away on Saturday and Sunday.

The Seventh Day Adventists have proven they can drink and still have the respect toward Jesus to do everything in their power to uphold the 10 Commandments.
These Baptist, Methodist, and the latest marketing scheme,"Multi-Denomination" churches are lost enough with out the need for alcohol to make them worse and give them an excuse why they are so lost when it comes to Christianity. Don't you think they are having a hard enough time keeping their Sabbath holy already? If they can not follow 10 simple Commandments can you imagine the trouble they will have with 12 steps.
If you had any knowledge of an Adventist they do not shop on Saturday as it is their Sabbath. They do not work or cause anyone else to work out of respect to Jesus's wishes to keep the Commandments as well as the Sabbath Holy. So selling alcohol to an Adventist on Saturday would never really be an issue. Just don't close down the Concord Cafe or Wangs and Thangs on them other guys "Sabbath". They have no problem with the desecration of this holy day and it is believed by many that that meal after church is the only motivation for them to get out of bed on Sunday.

Good Beer on Sunday:
Thursday morning just follow these instructions.
1 3lb can of Blue Ribbon Malt with hops
2 cakes of yeast
1 5lb sack of sugar
5 gal of warm water
Mix up in 5 gal container (old churn makes best)
Cover top with cheese cloth
Place in warm dark place (near hot water heater is good)
Draw off the beer Saturday night into jars and put in frig.
Sunday Beer is 9.5 to 12% alcohol.
Great for the football games, legal, cheap and it's SUNDAY.
It hurts the SPLOST program but I did not vote for it anyway.

We are on to something big Shelia. I vision a tanker truck full of the brew. Everyone must bring a gallon jug for the initial giveaway on Sunday. Church goers and biscuit bakers at the head of the line. The next Sunday would be token only. Honey we could tithe our profits to the local churches.

So...just curious if the commisioners (and Pike citizens) are against sunday sales because it's a 'sin' to drink on sundays? Let's see...it's also a 'sin' to have pre-marital sex on sundays...it's also a 'sin' to gossip in the church parking lot on a sunday...it's also a 'sin' to lust after that pretty young girl singing a religious hymn in the choir on sunday...it's also a 'sin' to cast judgement on others! I AM SO SICK OF PEOPLE BEING ALLOWED TO FORCE THEIR RELIGIOUS BELIEFS DOWN MY THROAT!! IT IS NO DIFFERENT THAN ME LITERALLY TRYING TO FORCE AN ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE DOWN THEIR THROAT!! It is 2011...not 1911. As one person already commented...THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE DECISION OF THE VOTERS...THE PEOPLE OF PIKE...THAT 'ELECTED' THE BIBLE THUMPERS!!

apparently, there are a lot of people too ignorant to buy their booze on saturday.

just buy an extra case and put it somewhere you won't remember when you are drunk. then sunday when you sober up you'll remember you have an extra case and where you stashed it.

then you can get drunk all over again.

see how simple that is?

If you want a cold beer on Sunday before or after church you have to head North or South. Give your hard earned dollars to SPLOST outside Pike. Protect the Bible Thumpers.
