I just thought I'd share a memory of a similar incident that happened in Pike County approximately 30 years ago. I was working for the Journal-Reporter and we received a call about a lightning strike and some dead cows at a farm on U.S. 19 just south of where the schools' campus is now (the farm's not there anymore, was razed, I think, when the highway was widened). There were, I think, 10 or 12 cows with stiffened, extended legs scattered around a under a tree, and they resembled toy animals that had simply been knocked over. The scene remains among the most bizarre things I've ever seen.

We just had that happen to us. We run a herd of beefmasters and commercial cows and last Thursday , June 11 2009 a lightning strike took 16 of our cows out. They were lying next to a small tree on the side of the hill. It was the first time I had ever seen that. I have had it happen to people I know but this really sruck home, no pun intended
