A tractor trailer hauling lime caught fire Tuesday around noon on Highway 18 West near Bottoms Road. The highway was closed to traffic as firefighters doused the flames through the toxic smoke. DOT workers were called in to remove the lime and repair fire damage on the highway before the road was reopened just after 4 p.m.

The correct term is SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) and not oxygen mask. A oxygen mask is what EMS uses on Concord Smoke jumpa every time he goes to a call.

Gosh, I hope the fire didn't ruin the new asphalt that will be the start of new pot-holes.

No but we did use the Pike Helicopter 1 Fire Service. Numerous trips were made to the Flint River to fill the helobucket which was dropped on the site. Very few fish and turtles lost their lives in this operation. To Serve To Protect To Fight Fire.

Our "small truck" is the one that chased him down and let him know, and we called the fire department. The driver had no idea his truck was on fire. It was a sight, for sure. The tires blew from the heat.
