By Greg Parrott
The Pike County Pirates baseball team cruised into first place with huge wins over Morgan County and Northeast Macon. Morgan was sporting a 9-1 record when the Pirates dominated the Bulldogs 18-8 in a five inning run rule mercy game. The Pirates also shut out the Northeast Macon Raiders 11-0.

Nate Ferrell crosses home plate after hitting a grand slam to run rule the Morgan County Raiders.

By the way, Blake Edwards hit the grand slam - not Nate Ferrell. Nate did hit a homerun. We have both a strong senior class and a strong junior class. Four of the starters are juniors. The junior class is lacking in strong pitching. the only two junior pitchers getting any time on the mound this year are Blake, on a limited basis, and Drew Watkins. This will hurt the team next year.

I thought all these boys got their skills from playing travel ball! If that's the case, then don't worry about next years pitchers getting mound time they should get plenty with their travel teams. I would hate to to be in Hansons shoes, if he wins people still find stuff to complain about

Nate hit a Grand Slam in tues game (NE Macon) and a 2 run homer in Fridays game against Morgan Co. Ace. We do have a strong junior class also, we've even got some good 8th,9th,and 10th grade players, I don't won't to leave anyone out.

Coach Hanson is a great baseball coach with a talented group of players. They should go far this year. There aren't many juniors that pitch so they won't get mound time on their travel teams. Most of them are position players. Hope the good 8th, 9th and 10th grade players step it up next year and help out.

strike three - You misunderstood my comment about next year's junior class not getting mound time. I was stating that there aren't many juniors that pitch so only a couple are getting mound time this year. I was not complaining about Coach Hanson, so you shouldn't be so defensive. I think Coach Hanson and his brother do an excellent job. It's obvious because the Pirates win the region every year and go deep in the playoffs. It takes more than just talented players to win games.
