High school football coach John McMillan resigned Friday even though he had already signed a contract for the 2011-12 school year. Superintendent Dr. Michael Duncan said coach Clint Burton has been appointed as interim head coach for the football team for their upcoming spring
practices.

John McMillan
Now it is time to move on Maybe Coach Burton is the coach for the future but for now he is the coach of this team heading into Spring Practice.
The one thing I noticed is it is crucial to get more players to be involved with the football team. It is my understanding for whatever reasons there are many good athletes walking the hallways that could make the Pirates a better team.
So Coach Burton Beat the Hallways recruit like a college coach does, It might stink but make it fun but make it work.
Pike County wants a winning football team to support so badly. Those first five games last season brought a passion and pride back to Pike County.
Build a feeder system starting with the recreation program then middle school program all the way up.
Good Luck and GO PIRATES!
Good Day !!!!!!!
We all know overall in todays society we have to be super careful what we say these days as today many people if they do not like you then they assume things.
From what I have gathered is the coach has always made the same style of comments that might have been accepted or tolerated a few years back but over time and five straight losses these comments are not viewed the same. There are always no matter what going to be people not happy.
But you know some of his comments might have been inappropriate whether it was to football players or students or adults and in todays society you better think about the consequences about ANYTHING you say right or wrong.
But if you think about it. They had to be a few comments or suggestions we might not never know about but the School system started to think after obviously some or someone complained that if the school board does not get rid of him the school system might be facing potentially a lawsuit now or in the future.
I think it is what it is and I feel sorry for any person who loses their job these days. Think about this man was making it appears over 80,000 dollars doing something he loved to do and now he has lost it all. This will hang on his resume and everytime he applies for a new job with todays information technology people will find out about this and twist however they see fit.
So now the Pirates move on and for now it is Coach Burton and he and the rest of the staff will learn from this.
If anything I hope somehow someway the community can get behind him and support the Pirates and I hope somehow more students can become involved with the program.
If the Pirates are winning those fall friday nights at football games is wonderful.
Take Care everyone and Go Pirates
If you've said nothing inappropriate then there is no reason for you to leave. You owe it to your family to fight and clear your name. If you did say something inappropriate to PCH girls then the sooner you're out the better.
what we have a problem with is out of towners coming to "fix" pike county. you know bring us out of the dark ages. we like it here and we don't particularly want it to change and as long as you are ok with that you are welcome here. once you start with all the things that pike county "needs" we would rather you return to the place that has them.
to the teacher out of this county...welcome to pike and thanks so much for the job that you do each and everyday to teach our kids and for driving the distance to do so, cause i know for a fact that pike is a low paying county for school employees!!
teacher's should have a vested interested in the community they serve. pike county pays teachers plenty and administrators too much. if we didn't have to pay so much on the top end of things, maybe we could afford books for everyone.
i guess people like you want to change pike county. make it into clayton and henry and fayette.
i've lived here since i was born. but, if it keeps going the way it is, i will move and let all these wanna be city folk have it.
that having a class without a teacher is ok as long as we get to keep short people in administration.
you must be one of the superintendents buddies. are you short too?
and by the way, no im not short!! im tall and stand proud for what i believe in! and what i believe is that it doesnt matter if you were born and raised here or an implant here, whats right is right and whats wrong is wrong when it comes to the future of our children!
i love it here in pike county and do not want to see it turn into henry, fayette or clayton either, but we for sure dont need to be like mayberry either!!
my son has 2 classes where they have to share books. my daughter has a class that the teacher is in athens and is a graduate student (the actual teacher also in athens is on maternity leave). this graduate student is teaching science and can't spell. CAN'T SPELL!!!
if you think that school system is being run wisely, you are sadly mistaken. to continue to pay a premium (50% more than griffin-spalding) for this superintendent is ludicrous.
Teachers have a life outside of school. Apparently, the public does not realize this. I teach in one county and live in a nearby county so I will not be bothered by parents/ students when I am away from my job. I once lived in the county where I taught and it was horrible. Parents would call at night and wake my kids up to ask about extra credit assignments or ask for answers to a study guide. When I'm not at school, I want you to leave me alone. At the end of the day, i am human.
How'about, Treat me like a fool. My favorite.
Treat me mean and cruel but love me.
Thank you very much
He was a little man, just turned three
Took the present from his daddy’s hand
A genuine toy hammer
He started beatin’ to beat the band
He hit the floors and the wall, broke a lamp in the hall,
Started swinging at the puppy’s tail
When you’re holding a hammer
Everything looks like a nail.
He was the president, number 44
He says, “Trust me, I’m here to help you
I have got some big big plans
You’re gonna love what I’m gonna do.”
There’s no problem too big or small
He thinks he’s got an answer that just can’t fail
When you’re holding a hammer
Everything looks like a nail.
He thinks big thoughts and he dreams big dreams
But it’s another man’s sweat that pays for those schemes
He don’t care how the little people feel
‘Cause saving the world is a big freaking deal
So he does his business behind closed doors
And pretends that the world is just begging for more
When the stuff hits the fan he says, “Don’t look at me
If you got trouble, blame 43.”
Now Congress is saving Wall Street
While they’re watching Main Street fall
They got health care all figured out
But it don’t seem to care much at all
As soon as they save the planet
They’ll put the fire out in hell
When you’re holding a hammer.
Everything looks like a nail.
There’ll be a party come this November
When we’re gonna set things straight
All good people gonna gather ‘round
Gonna show what made this country great
We’ll run off the schemers and backroom dealers
So the Red, White and Blue will prevail
When we’re holding the hammer
When we’re holding the hammer
Everyone of them looks like a nail.
but just in case you didn't know. mr. sawyer is not a teacher.
When they want you gone they will tell anything and everything to make it very uncomfortable for you. I know this to be a fact because I also fell victim to lies while working for Pike County school system.
They have accused innocent people of slapping a student, but I remind you no police was called,so I ask you all reading this,if a teacher or staff member ever hit a child, don't you all think the police should have been called and an investigation done?
I was told how unprofessional I was all the time when in fact I know someone stole from the school and the principal at the time begged not to have them arrested, but if it had been your child or mine they would have been hauled off to jail. This person yelled at students and was never reprimended for it, these were special education students. It was reported but never any discipline to them.
I was there doing all I could to help children achieve their goals, as so was Coach Mac, but unfortunately we got the boot and those who need to be gone are still there. Good luck Mac and hope things work out for you!!!!!!!!!
I'm wondering if fat bass tard is one of JC's screen names???? Sure sounds like him.
The String replied, "I'm a frayed knot."
btw, i am 4th generation pike county.

Two individuals collecting over $30,000.00 as Substitute teachers.
More facts to ponder on the way.
maybe if teachers had to pay subs out of their own pockets they would stay at work all 190 days they have to work a year.
More to come.
More to come.
cut that in half by simply going back to get your lazy butt out of bed and get to the bus.
I do not live in Pike anymore but I was lucking enough to attend the Pike vs. Lamar game this year, always a great rivalry. I would estimate their was at least 4000 fans on the Pike County side that night and probably another 5000 in the Lamar County stands. I would assume that Pike County average around the same 5000 fans in their home games and let us assume that 2000 visitors comes with the visiting team. That is an average of 7000 fans for 5 home games. So let us do some math.
I do not remember how much I paid that night but let’s assume I paid $7.00 as an adult and the students paid $5.00. I will assume that between the 7000 fans it was evenly divided between adults and students so this would make the average ticked price $6.00. I will, just for the sake of it assume that the fans spent an average of $2.00 at the concession stand. I must admit that I do not know if the schools have to share the gate but if they did things would even out with the away games. With this scenario set up let’s do some math.
7000 fans x $6.00 for the gate = $42,000
7000 fans x $2.00 for concession = $14,000
$56,000
$56000 x 5 = $280,000
Coaches Salary = $80,00
Left over monies = $200,000
3000 fans x $6.00 for the gate = $18,000
3000 fans x $2.00 for concession = $6,000
$24,000
$24,000 x 5 = $120,000
Coaches Salary = $80,000
Left over monies = $40,000
Getting a good football coach cost money. A good football coach will pay for themselves. You may not remember 1983 but it did not feel good being every school Homecoming Team. Football in the South is BIG Business.
the only profit is all the "pro football player" parents living vicariously through their children.
the band has to practice on a dirt field because the coaches don't want them walking on the grass.
most of the other sports don't use the lights because they don't play at night.
they even took over the walking track so they could split their squads up to practice offense and defense.
sorry danny but you are dead wrong on this one.
I've seen coaches court and cater to the players. And I've seen them kick 'em to the curb and move on to the next one when they're done. Meanwhile, the kid doesn't understand why his mentor no longer gives him the time of day. I think the word I'm looking for here is exploitation.
Funny how the same people who welcome a winning coach who has zero classes to teach and makes $150- $212K a year are the same people who whine about a teacher making $60K for teaching six classes and 140 students whose functionality runs the gamut from drooling to uber-genius.
Pike County seems to get the priorities right. It's not about building a solid football program, it's about building solid young men and women.
School is in BIG business already- the business of educating our children. Once they conquer that market, then they can diversify.
Let's just say we ain't there yet...
Ain't math grand.
teachers work 190 days per year. the average teacher salary in the us is 42,000
so a teacher making 42,000 per year is like the average person making approximately 53,000 per year. that seems like a pretty dang good salary to me especially considering the median income in the US is 32,000. now, my recommendation for a teacher, if you don't think you make enough, then please find a job in another profession.
oh and i buy my own supplies for my job as well so forget that argument. i work overtime without pay as well when necessary so forget that one too.
raises so much frustration within this community.
my complaints are about administrators mostly ones in the super's office.
As far as supplies, with budget cuts and so forth, I feel guilty asking families to bring in supplies when I know that buying food is a struggle. On an average, I spend around $1500 a year on my students. Books, notebooks, pencils, snacks, and some years even clothing and luches have come out of my pocket. It is done, in part, because there are parents who don't or can't send in what we need, but it is also because I love my job and want every child to have what they need to have a good education.
On the financial side of it, I know I will never be making a lot of money and that is OK because I am a teacher and I LOVE MY JOB!!!! The hours get stressful, some days seem impossible, but it is still what I have chosen to do in life and am good at it. My problem isn't with the money, it is the LACK OF RESPECT that teachers get, not only from students but from adults in the community as well, which is always evident on these blog postings. A dedicated teacher doesn't work 8-4, 5 days a week, summers off. For a dedicated teacher, the work never stops.
supplies: in the neighborhood of $10,000 annually.
respect: never heard of it. i'm given a job and i'm expected to do it. i'm not cajoled or treated with kid gloves.
what is it about government workers that make them think they are owed "respect"? respect is earned not owed.
If you are an eligible educator, you can deduct up to $250 ($500 if married filing joint and both spouses are educators, but not more than $250 each) of any unreimbursed expenses [otherwise deductible as a trade or business expense] you paid or incurred for books, supplies, computer equipment (including related software and services), other equipment, and supplementary materials that you use in the classroom. For courses in health and physical education, expenses for supplies are qualified expenses only if they are related to athletics. This deduction is for expenses paid or incurred during the tax year. The deduction is claimed on either line 23 of Form 1040 (PDF) or line 16 of Form 1040A (PDF).
It is nice to see you buy your own supplies. Since it bothers you so much, maybe you should start using coupons! If I had to buy just for myself, it would be fine, but there I am not the only one in the classroom.
It sounds like your job kinda sucks....why don't you become a teacher! You keep pointing out all of the benefits, lets see how it is when you are doing it first hand. I don't think you would last very long.
maybe it's your guilt that makes them seem disparaging. if the truth hurts just avoid it. that seems to be the way people are today.
I will say that I think that Parapros are underpaid. They should be making more than what they do. They are the ones I would like to see with a better salary.
Pike County has some great teachers. I am proud to work for the school system and I am proud to send my kids to school here!!!!
even the person i responded to came back with "you should respect the job they do".
i earn my way and support my family. maybe i'm owed some respect. does anyone know where the government respect office is, i want my respect!!
They will just move and do the same thing again at their next job and the next place may not find out about their past. BREAK THE CYCLE STUPID!
sorry if that was lost in the translation
