Please PCHS: Go hire a head coach that has been successful and that has a passion for what they do..... Nobody on this staff needs this job.. We need someone new with and one who will bring enthusiasm here and excitement
Rick, come on now. Everyone knows it isn't just the coach or staff it is the quality of players too. Pike has nothing to offer and sports in general especially Pike football is a joke, pasty white kids with parents trying to live a faded dream on the field. Or a parent hoping the kids is good enough to get a full scholarship ride. "Yea Right"!!!!!!
If PC football wants to win they have to go to the other side and you know what I mean. Other than that PCHS parents need to accept Pike Football is a third class sporting event equal to croquet.
Here we go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lets drag this black and white sh** in the picture. "White pasty kids": at least they are on the field doing their best. Do you have a white pasty kid? i sure as hell dont. you are pathetic. Look at all your white pasty NFL players they had to come from some where... get a life and leave race out of it. yes i am white. so what i would say the same thing if i was black...Coach Mac you are an outstanding person, i wish you the best in all you do. You not only was my sons coach you were a mentore to him. you helped me raise an outstanding young man. and even though he has graduated he often speaks of you....
Now, Jim, I agree to an extent that Pike does not have the greatest athletes. And, no, its not all coaching. BUT, Pike can be better than what they are. They need to bring in a young coach that wants to make a name for himself and that is hungry and that wants to work. You are right about the parents and etc, but thats a lot of places now days... I would like for them to get someone who is familiar with this area and that has been successful at places and that wants to be here. It is time for our administration and super to make a hire that will help try to change this place...
I agree Rick, although you gotta admit that anything that has to do with our educational system is political. The "system" in theory makes the illusion they care about the children and we know that in crap. The "system" is so disenchanted and political it flows over to every aspect right down to the athletic department. The BOE and the superintendent can't afford nor have the structure to attract high quality coaches and in these hard economic times that task may be impossible.
And some of the basketball players EVER! Thank you Coach Walter Cook!

Succesful High School Athlete programs have successful Feeder Systems
on

Pike County/Country will always be challenged at the High School level to be a top notched team in any sports.
Think about the teams that are doing well the feeder programs are better then the others.
It starts with the recreational programs.
It starts with community support.
Then it goes thru the middle school programs.
You need a strong coaches at all levels on the same page.
You need more kids in the High School that want to play. I dont know the answer but the coaches need to work the magic and get these kids playing sports.
It does not matter how great of coach is brought in unless the feeder systems are fixed.
Look at what he has done as a head Coach since he left us. Check him out on the historians webpage. 93-54-1 with 11 playoff appearances. I see he is looking for a job.He was the first coach in PCHS history to take us to the playoffs.
I don't regularly attend HS games but I did in fact go last year when their record was perfect. The environment was quite nice and my family enjoyed it alot. Our football team may not be the best in the state but the quality of life here is good! A young coach who can devote MANY years to PC football would be nice for a strong foundation concerning football but more importantly lets more worry about the quality of education and how our kids grow up either playing football or not. God Bless.

We have done our research on this and know what is going down. Please everyone remain clam and a announcement will come forth late Monday afternoon. It ain't going to be pretty.
Hey there, Georgy girl
Swingin' down the street so fancy-free
Nobody you meet could ever see the loneliness there - inside you
Hey there, Georgy girl
Why do all the boys just pass you by?
Could it be you just don't try or is it the clothes you wear?
You're always window shopping but never stopping to buy
So shed those dowdy feathers and fly - a little bit
Hey there, Georgy girl
There's another Georgy deep inside
Bring out all the love you hide and, oh, what a change there'd be
The world would see a new Georgy girl
[Instrumental Interlude]
Hey there, Georgy girl
Dreamin'; of the someone you could be
Life is a reality, you can't always run away
Don't be so scared of changing and rearranging yourself
It's time for jumping down from the shelf - a little bit
Hey there, Georgy girl
There's another Georgy deep inside
Bring out all the love you hide and, oh, what a change there'd be
The world would see a new Georgy girl
(Hey there, Georgy girl)
Wake up, Georgy girl
(Hey there, Georgy girl)
Come on, Georgy girl
Wow Shelia, those lyrics really fit the picture. We thought Georgia Girl was the only one who knew how to throw up lyrics, so did she. Great ZAP. Keep up the good work, I read you daily.
We have a qualified coach that has been on staff...they should have given him the job a long time ago...they call him Webber!!! Helped lead Miami to two championships......so there!
Webber is not the answer. He was a strength coach and not a football coach at Miami... Has not been a head football coach.... I here duncan may already have someone since he knew this was gonna happen. They need to clean house and bring in a young guy who has experience as a head coach and that will work to build something. Webber is a good man but he is not what we need as a head coach.Period !
Well, no matter what the reason, we now have a chance to improve on improvement. Pray that the powers that be can find us a good'un. Friday night football is great! Can't wait for the season to get started! Keep working hard Pirates!!
He came on friday and talked to the football players and tennis players ....... he said " @ his old school he made an innappropriate remark to a student and a teacher........and he did not put it on his resume!
As of then coach burton is the interim head coach!

Come on people; you DO NOT RESIGN from a job that is paying you $80,000 a year.
This is easy... Clean House.... We need a new head coach and he needs to clean house and start from scratch... Webber is not our answer and he will not get the job. Burton can hold things together until a replacement can be made. Duncan hire a coach that has head coaching experience and that is young without a lot of enthusiasm. We need to start from scratch and build this program from bottom up....
Who cares? Pike County is ridiculous with their lame politics. There are some well deserving kids that miss out on great oppurtunities because it is so damn expensive to play a sport. I think education should be priority. I am sure all of you are perfect and would be awesome coaches.
I agree with you!!! The kids who are capable of playing cannot because of cost. They want them to have all types of stuff. Then wnen a child gets in trouble no one on the coaching staff is man enough to help him. They are a bunch of yes men. We need someone who is man enough to stand up for his boys.
I'm so sorry to hear you are leaving Coach Mac. In spite of last year's second half losses causing "fans" to forget, you are a good coach and have been for many years. You did a lot with a team that should not have been able to do what they did. Great job. You will be missed.
You obviously know very little about how to run a football program. There are MANY things he did NOT do that championship programs consistently do. And there are many things he DID (like make fun of players, for one) that championship coaches NEVER do. He was mediocre at best. This guy had a lot of people snowed, unfortunately. So glad the administration stepped up and did the right thing.
Y'all sound like a bunch of gossiping old women on here. Why don't you wait and find out what truly happened and the real story before you ASSUME...you know what that does to a person! The man is a respectable coach. Yes, he's tough on the kids, but we've also had the best past four seasons on record (with the exception of last). It sounds like he has some fair-weather fans...I bet you were cheering him on October 2009 from the stands! Wait until you hear all the facts, then make your judgements, folks.
ASSUME? My son is one of the players on this team. I don't have to ASSUME anything. He was a starter who didn't mind working hard. Mac is not who worked him. The position coaches do all of the work. Mac walked around looking down his nose at his players, making fun of them, laughing at them when they expressed dreams of winning state, always seeing their faults but never recognizing the positive. If it weren't for the boys' love of the game, we wouldn't have a team. Mac didn't do anything encourage, teach or support any of our players. They didn't win because of him. They won in spite of him.
Wow, Pirate Mom, my son was also a starter. It sounds like they played for two different head coaches because that's not what I've heard in the four years he played for Coach Mac. Sure position coaches do a lot of the hands-on coaching and motivating. Head coaches manage the other coaches. But Coach Mac still found time to encourage my son and I have never heard of him putting down players dreams of winning state. In fact, I've heard just the opposite.

As someone who played under Coach Mac, I can personally say that there was nothing wrong with his coaching style. He is a great coach and an all around great guy. It's weird how people seem to forget that as head coach he lost every game his first season and just two years later had an almost perfect one, does that not prove to people that as a coach he knows what he's doing? And if your kid tends to get his feelings hurt so easily then maybe football was never the sport for him.
By ASSUME, I meant that everyone is on here assuming that this or that happened. I have, too, heard rumors, but I will not go on a witchhunt until I have heard all the facts. We have several family friends that we are proud to say are/were Pike Co players. I admit that one of these friends had problems with Coach Mac and, like Former Pike Player stated, this player was a person who got their feelings hurt easily. I also know several other kids who played under Coach Mac and adored him and talked about how he was very inspirational as a coach and mentor. So there are always two sides to every story. Personally, I think that Coach Mac is an outstanding member of Pike Co. society and education, regardless of whatever the circumstances are surrounding this.

Coach Mac and Pam are two of the finest people I have ever known, they'd do anything for anybody! Good people, good chtristians, leave them be!
i know exactly what happened dang! STOP ALL THE SPECULATIONS THIS CAME FROM HIS MOUTH!!!!!!
He came on friday and talked to the football players and tennis players ....... he said " @ his old school he made an innappropriate remark to a student and a teacher........and he did not put it on his resume!
No reference checks? Just a resume is all that is needed to acquire a $80,000 job? If so, Shame on you BOE? Put the facts all out here...you built it...and they will come.
Anyone notice it's now TUESDAY afternoon and still no 'official' word? Besides...since he 'stepped down', chances are we will never get the REAL story anyway. Why would he resign if there was no current problem? No one would care about prior innappropriate comments if there weren't current ones coming to light also, right?

Did you ever think that the reason his record improved so much could have been because he hired a few jam-up assistants and let them teach you guys how to win? Did he actually teach you any fundamentals? I have watched practice MANY times and have never seen him do anyting as far as actual coaching and teaching. Just blowing his whistle when it's time to change groups. And talking on the phone a lot. haha
I know the facts. As others have mentioned, inappropriate (sexual) comments to and about students and coworkers, on multiple occasions. Has been in trouble for this before (call or email GA PSC and ask) but apparently didn't learn his lesson. Income dropped $80,000 in a heartbeat. What a selfish act to jeopardize life as your family knew it for your own sick pleaures. The thought of him saying something inappropriate to my daughter or thinking about her in an inappropriate way makes my skin crawl, and I am SO glad he is gone. As for the coaching part, the fact that about 50 players quit during this past season speaks volumes. That is unheard of in high school football. I understand that there were a handful of players who liked him, but there were also many more who had plans to transfer or quit if he continued to be the coach. Yes, there are definitely two sides to the story. Don't think all of this would qualify one for PC Society and Education member of the year, PC Peach.

You have your story right. Lot of that going on in the BOE. Look back at the last 10 years and you will find the BOE staff and office are operated like a brothel. Broke up many marraiges and families. The BOE should be about education and not a place for affairs. "Sick pleasures" are created there.
I wish you people were as concerned about the number of books and hours at the Pike library as you are about sports. And no, I'm not one of the wonderful ladies who work there!!!
We will now see if our super can go and find us a quality coach. If we hire webber my son will be gone. We need to clean house and bring in someone new
I only care about the good you have done. I respect you for that and thank you for all you have done. My son have became a good man in part to all of you at pike. Do not let any one get you down. My son choose to teach and is working his way through college. He sees the good in you and looks up to you. My daughter has learned to be a stronger indepenant woman. I will always be proud to have be a parent with childern that have been in sports in Pike County. It is not about where it takes you. It is about who your children become.
That is one thing I miss about Clayco, we never had all the problems present in the Pike BOE system. Our chairman, teachers and coaches concentrated on education, not preverted thoughts and acts.
Why are people so worried about a coach for a football team? How about bring textbooks back in the school?? I witnessed FIRST HAND the shortage of textbooks in classrooms and why? So Football can be funded. EDUCATION COMES FIRST.
Wow. Ok. I've played for mac. I couldn't stand him. Whoever got on here and said her son was a starter and loved mac must be a quarterbacks mom. There are coaches on the staff now that are phenomenal coaches. I've played for all of these coaches. Webber knows what he is doing. He knows football. It doesn't matter if he was a strength coach at Miami. You don't get college coaching jobs without knowing Football. Burton is also an amazing coach. Burton is a football genius. A knew head coach yes. A few new assistants yes. But cleaning house? no.
It's a shame that Coach Mac had to leave this way. I played for him when he was at Calhoun back in 2004. I was on the OL, so he was not my position coach, but bottom line is he was a younger guy who enjoyed cutting up with the rest of us. Anything he said was an attempt to get a laugh out of one of us...that's just the way he was/is. He was VERY well liked by everyone. He wasn't one of those intimidating, "professional" coaches who had their head stuck up there @$$; he was very approachable and cared about the kids.
It's pathetic the number of "has-beens," parents of third stringers, etc. that feel obligated to come on here and put the man and his family down for something that they probably are not informed about. I know personally that he is a good man and would do damn near anything for each and every one of his players. If I were him, I wouldn't view the situation as being "forced out," I'd see it as an opportunity to get out of a piss poor situation and move on to a program that actually has a shot at winning.
Also ,a "good" head coach surrounds himself with a staff that is BETTER/knows more than he is/does. In my opinion, a losing season is either attributable to lack of talent, lack of passion (by kids & coaches), or position coaches not doing what they need to do to prepare the kids for Friday night... the head coach (Mac) is just someone for all of you that have nothing better to do to point a finger at...end of story.
