Pike County voters approved the SPLOST referendum Tuesday. The vote was not as close as expected.

With all precincts reporting, the final tally was:

TOTAL:
1155 - YES votes
740 - NO votes

Voting by precinct ran as follows:

I hope you'll put that talent to use and let's make sure this SPLOST actually benefits us, the taxpayers, and doesn't wind up in a brown paper bag stuffed in the back of a drawer for some future fat cat to find.

CR - let's work together to hold them accountable. i can assure you i will be paying close attention to what gets done on the courthouse and road projects.

but i can't do a thing if other's don't pay attention. if they keep electing the same people and letting them get away with everything.

cost: $450,000

the people of pike county voted for a splost
cost: $800,000 per year.

the look on their faces when the courthouse is no better off after spending $4 million.

priceless.

what sort of fool votes to tax themselves? please post using your name so we know who not to deal with in pike county. be proud that you voted in the splost.

While voting for a splost is technically voting to tax yourself, voting for a splost is also voting to enact a tax everyone pays for. Those of you that believe that splost should not have passed because you are taxing yourself are short sighted. I do not live in Pike, but I do spend a fair amount of time in Pike. While in Pike I do spend a fair amount of money at local businesses. The money I spend will be used to help pay the splost. A splost is the only way that the citizens of Pike can guarantee that not just the property owners foot the bill. If those of you that are property owners want to foot the bill fine with me, my life won't change. If not stop whining and move forward.

I think we all understand how splost works. If the country had a complete fair tax in place it would be great. But realistically just how many people outside our county do you think shop in our stores? We don't have a Wallmart or any major shopping, it's basically the property owners giving these politicians another income source. Even the majority of us shop in Spalding.

Out of 159 counties in the state of GA.
Only 8 does not have a special purpose tax.
Bibb, Dekalb, Fayette, Fulton, Muscogee,
Pike, Towns, Wheeler

DeKalb and Fulton cannot have a SPLOST by State Law. They gave up that right to Fund MARTA.

No the problem with this interested observer is we have watched money come and go with out seeing results. For example take all the roads in South and West Pike that are not on 18 or 109. For years they have been bubble gummed and duck taped together, but yet our taxes have seemed to go up on our property for years. Now where is this money going to go laying sod in a commissioners front year?Please don't respond stupid either because i've been here for all my life from the 70's till now unlike all the other jack legs that have something to mention that just came into this county.

All those Pike Patriots applying for board positions should undergo background checks.
Makes no sense having a board member with revoked drivers permit, outstanding bad checks,
no auto insurance and past due Pike property taxes. Get real and run the county like professionals. Bill Avery paid his taxes even while living in Alabama.
