COVID-19 claims fourth victim in Pike

Pike County’s total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases was at 192 on Monday with an additional death added on Friday evening. There have been 17 people total hospitalized with the illness and 53 cases in the last two weeks, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health. The most recent death due to COVID-19 in Pike was that of a 90+ year old white female with underlying health conditions. [Full story »]

Ronnie Aaron Kempson, age 74, of Concord, passed away July 30, 2020. He was born in Concord, son of the late J. W. Kempson and Irene Garner Kempson. He worked for Ford Motor Company for 30 years before retiring. Ronnie enjoyed working on cars, and selling cars. In his early years he enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting. For 104 years, Helen Mangham has been surrounded by friends and family on her birthday but this year, due to COVID-19 concerns, her family is asking that birthday cards be sent her way as she celebrates her 105th birthday! She was born Aug. 2 and still lives on her own in Lifsey Springs. Helen is well-loved in the community and her granddaughter Pam Vickers said initially a reception with more than 100 guests was planned. [Full story »]

Rochelle Smith of Concord was the first student to sign up for classes at the Georgia Military College Zebulon campus and she will graduate with her associate’s degree in Business Administration at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 25 at Southern Ground Amphitheater in Fayetteville. She will be joined by other graduates from GMC’s Fairburn, Fayetteville and Stone Mountain campuses as they hear from commencement speaker Bob Mackey who is the CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of North Central Georgia.
