VA Clinic to open by fall 2021

Historic markers at the northern city limit of Zebulon on Highway 19 could have revealed the location of the future VA facility in Pike County. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs recently released a photo of the multi-specialty VA Clinic. The new facility will have a total of 49,300 square feet and will offer primary care, mental health and specialty care services. The information released said “the clinic, located in the city of Zebulon, Georgia along Highway 19, will serve veterans Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.” [Full story »]

The Pike County High School cross country team hosted their first home meet on the new course, Jacob’s Way, in memory of the late Jacob Woerner. Upson County’s team joined the PCHS runners in the inaugural meet for the course. Balloons were released in memory of Jacob who was an eighth grader at Pike County Middle School when he passed away. He loved sports and the outdoors and the new course on the school campus includes beautiful trails through the woods. [Full story »]

Burn permits issued again

The Georgia Forestry Commission is again issuing burn permits after recent rains alleviated the deepening drought conditions.

“Recent rains, along with rain predicted for the next week or so should slow down any wildfire activity and make conditions safer for outdoor burning,” said GFC chief ranger Jeff Kenerly. [Full story »]

Haunted Trail, Festival planned

Pike County American Legion Family 197’s Legion of Doom Haunted Trail and Spooky Festival fundraiser will open Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25-26 as well as Halloween night and Nov. 1-2. The trail will be open from 7 to 11 p.m. and is $10 for adults and $5 for children. The Spooky Festival will have carnival games like a Cupcake Walk, Ring Toss, Ping-Pong toss, Fishing Game, Duck Pond, Putt-Putt, Balloon Pop and Spider Races.Wrist bands will be $5 or tickets will be four for a $1 donation. The festival will be open from 6 to 10 p.m. There will be a Hay Ride for a $5 donation. Food and drinks will include hot dogs, candied and caramel apples, popcorn, hot chocolate and hot apple cider.
