Mrs. Etta Mae Peavy Trawick, age 91, of Zebulon, passed away October 9, 2017, at Brightmoor Nursing Center. She was born in Glascock County, daughter of the late Arthur Floyd Peavy and Orrie Wilkins Peavy. She was a long time member of Meansville Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing cards, fishing and especially loved cooking for others. Mae was famous for her fruitcakes. [Full story »]

Zebulon awarded grant for Southside Photo Walk

The city of Zebulon was recently awarded a grant from the Georgia Department of Economic Development’s Tourism division for the Southside Photo Walk. The local project was one of 14 tourism projects across the state to receive the grant from the 2017 Tourism Product Development Funding Program. The project is slated to be complete by next summer. Zebulon Police officers responded to a theft in progress call at Eye Can See 2 on the courthouse square around 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4. Pike County 911 dispatchers advised the responding officers that a black male and black female had just fled the store with approximately $2,000 in glasses and had fled in a silver Crown Victoria heading on Highway 18 toward Lamar County. The 44th annual Concord Country Jubilee is set for Oct. 21-22 with vendors organized in a new way this year, placing all food vendors and all children’s activities in their own areas. The historic Concord Jubilee will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days and the annual parade will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 with grand marshals Perry Wilson “The Train Man” and his wife Faye. The couple always brings their popular train ride for children to enjoy as they travel the length of the Jubilee festivities and have attended since the festival’s start. Mr. William “Bill” Frank, age 86, of Zebulon, passed away October 2, 2017, at Upson Regional Medical Center. Bill grew up in Miami, FL, and moved to Pike County in 1973. He was a pilot and worked for Eastern Airlines for 38 years, retiring in 1986. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and flying. [Full story »]

Pike Recreation Authority honored by Braves

Pike County Parks and Recreation Authority was recognized recently before the Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies game at SunTrust Park. On Sept. 22, Recreation Authority director Kevin Teate and others were presented with an award naming the authority as an Atlanta Braves Group Champion for having more than 750 people at a single game. What an exciting month for the Candler Field Museum - Youth Aviation Program. Several students reached milestones on a personal basis.

Jared Monk became our fifth program student to obtain a Private Pilots Certification. Not captured in photos taken that day was the big, heartfelt hug Jared spontaneously gave Dave Currie while thanking him for teaching him to fly. The moment was priceless! Wonder is the beginning of wisdom. What these two gentlemen have shared would have made our beloved Ron smile - I certainly did. [Full story »]

‘It’s all good’ was the phrase of the day as rain briefly interrupted the Barn Bash: Charity Concert that raised funds for a scholarship to honor the late educator and coach Brandon Brown on Sept. 23. Despite the heat and sudden downpour, hundreds showed their support for Brandon and his family as students he coached and taught at Pike County Elementary School enjoyed the inflatables, rock climbing wall and trampolines.
