Old Zebulon School project gaining ground

A diverse group of 25 Pike County residents gathered Oct. 23 at the Chandler Building to hear about the latest efforts to save the old Zebulon School on Adams Street. Participants were given “Save OZS” buttons and hard hats as they arrived and were treated to a buffet meal prepared by Anna Evans.

Zebulon Park gets new fountain, walking track, landscaping

The Zebulon City Park will have a new look by the New Year as work is ongoing to improve the facility for the community. The park already has three pavilions as well as several swings, a walking trail and a large five-tiered water fountain that was installed recently. The park’s walking track is being extended all the way around the park, a paved path will be added from the main pavilion to the restrooms and concrete pads will be added under each pavilion and swing set. Cavaliers’ first playoff game at home on Friday

The CrossPointe Cavaliers won 72-0 over Covenant Christian on the road Friday. The Cavaliers dominated the game and shut out their opponents in their last three games of the regular season. The team set a school record with five shut out games this season with an 8-2 overall record and a 4-1 region record. Their win Friday gave them the second seed in the region and they will play their first playoff game at home this Friday. [Full story »]

Children of the Promise to hold fall festival this Saturday

Children of the Promise will host the fourth annual Fall Festival for kids with disabilities and their families and friends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Pike County Assembly of God at 4990 Highway 19 south in Zebulon. The event will include wagon rides, face painting, cookie decorating, Noah’s Ark, a carousel and sensory activities and games as well as prizes, hot dogs, popcorn and cotton candy. [Full story »]

It’s a bit tacky of me to say that sometimes I am “blue” in the fall, since it’s such a lovely season and my favorite time of year. Once in a while, I remember past moments with those who are not with us anymore, and snippets from my early newspaper career, and walking in the woods to look for stuff for “fall arrangements.” Such a pity my fall arrangements now come from the craft and hobby stores. Early voting ends this Friday

With only one week of early voting left, 3,278 citizens in Pike have already cast their ballots. Out of 12,364 registered voters, nearly 27 percent have voted. In person early voting ends at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 8 and polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at polling stations across the county. [Full story »]

Candler Field Museum’s annual Veterans Day event will feature patriotic music, flybys, military displays, a drill team and much more Saturday, Nov. 5. The day will begin at 11 a.m. with live music by Oak Hill Baptist Choir and the formal program starting at 2 p.m. The event is free and will share the story of many WWII soldiers. [Full story »]
