Mr. James L. “Jim” Hendrix Jr., age 75, of Griffin, passed away April 21, 2016, at his home. He was born on June 26, 1940, son of the late Rev. James L. Hendrix Sr. and Mildred Hagan Hendrix. He attended Bryan County High School where he played basketball. For many years he held the state scoring record for a high school basketball tournament in the state of Georgia. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Georgia Southern College in Statesboro, and his Juris Doctorate from Woodrow Wilson College of Law in Atlanta, graduating magna cum laude. After college, he went on to teach and coach high school boy’s basketball at Gordon High School in Atlanta. He opened Hendrix Law Firm in Zebulon where he practiced law for over 30 years. He was very active in the community. He was a founding member of The Church of Joy in Williamson, where he served as an Elder and Sunday School Teacher. He received the Pike County Citizen of The Year Award. He served on the Pike County Board of Education, was on the Board of Directors for United Bank, Gordon College, CrossPointe Christian Academy and Good Shepherd Riding Academy, and Past President of the Pike County Kiwanis Club. He was a loving husband and father and a doting grandfather.
