UPDATE: Pike County and its municipalities has been upgraded to a Flash Flood Warning.

Pike County and its municipalities remain under a flood watch through Friday evening.

From the National Weather Service:

* SOILS REMAIN VERY SATURATED ACROSS NORTH AND CENTRAL GEORGIA.
WIDESPREAD SHOWERS AND A FEW THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO
REDEVELOP ACROSS GEORGIA TODAY AND CONTINUE INTO THURSDAY. AN
ADDITIONAL 1 TO 2 INCHES OF RAIN IS POSSIBLE ACROSS THE WATCH
AREA. RAINFALL SHOULD BEGIN TO TAPER OFF BY FRIDAY EVENING.

* FLOODING CONTINUES ALONG MANY CREEKS AND RIVERS ACROSS
GEORGIA. THIS ADDITIONAL RAINFALL WILL LIKELY PROLONG FLOODING
IN MANY OF THESE AREAS... AND LIKELY CAUSE NEW FLOODING.
ALSO...TEMPORARY URBAN AND STREET FLOODING COULD OCCUR DUE TO
POOR DRAINAGE AND CLOGGED STORM DRAINS WHERE ANY HEAVY RAIN
FALLS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A FLOOD WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR FLOODING BASED ON
CURRENT FORECASTS.

YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE ALERT FOR POSSIBLE
FLOOD WARNINGS. THOSE LIVING IN AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING SHOULD BE
PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLOODING DEVELOP.

Members of the Pike Parks and Recreation Authority are making preparations for the 2016 Pride of Pike Independence Day Celebration which is set for Saturday, July 2 at the recreation fields.
“We are really looking forward to another great event. It’s been since 2010 since we’ve hosted the Pride of Pike,” said parks and recreation authority director Kevin Teate. “We are excited about bringing it back and we hope to make it bigger and better than ever. Hopefully it will be a great event for Pike County and the surrounding communities.” [Full story »]

As we continue through the holidays and approach the beginning of a new year, it’s common practice to look back at the last 12 months and take stock. This year we’re faced with the reality that individuals in this country and abroad continue to use violent attacks to make a statement. Unfortunately, this isn’t a new occurrence. Well before September 11, 2001 there was an element of global presence which sought to attack our way of life in America. Regardless of the rationale or logic, some individuals have claimed injustice or that they are required, by religious calling, to attack American ideology. This thought process has led to a name for the challenges we now face - we call it the “Global War on Terror.” [Full story »]

Matthew Brian Lane, 36, of Williamson was arrested by Spalding County Sheriff’s deputies after a search was conducted at a business known as Open Box Freight at 1420 Meriwether Street in Griffin. Officers found around $20,000 of stolen items during the search and 114 grams of methamphetamine. [Full story »]

Mrs. Eleanor Teresa St. John Rawlins, age 85, of Williamson, passed away December 28, 2015 at Upson Regional Medical Center. She worked for Sherri Lynn Manufacturing in Zebulon for 10 years and enjoyed making wreaths. She liked animals, especially cats. Mrs. Rawlins was called grandmother by everyone and dearly loved her family. She was preceded in death by her sister, Dottie. [Full story »]

Mr. Jordan Stanley Albritton, age 61, of Meansville, passed away December 25, 2015. He was born in Zebulon, son of the late Maurice Jordan Albritton and Lois Dominy Albritton. He began working for Martha Mills in Thomaston while he was in high school and worked there for 35 years. He was dedicated to his family and loved his children and grandchildren. He liked all animals and enjoyed raising chickens and quails. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Albritton. [Full story »]
