Suspect arrested after car chase ends in fiery wreck

Sheriff's deputies made an arrest Tuesday around 5:45 p.m. after a car chase that ended in a wreck off Reidsboro Road in Williamson.

UPDATE: The suspect was Alvin Dennis Wix Jr. He was driving a stolen Chrysler Pacifica. Sheriff's officers received a call that he was traveling north on Highway 19 in the southbound lanes. The vehicle had been reported stolen in Clayton County. He faces charges of theft by receiving stolen property, felony fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement and had an outstanding warrant for parole violation. [Full story »]

A six-year-old boy who took two rusty revolvers to his first day of classes at Pike County Primary School Sept. 29 will soon be on his way back to Alabama with his pregnant mother and two siblings after a juvenile court hearing here Tuesday morning.

Judge Ben Miller Jr. dismissed a motion that Georgia take jurisdiction in the case, clearing the way for the move. [Full story »]

Jarrod Fuqua, a former Pirates football player, took part in his first Tiger Walk with Auburn University recently. He graduated from PCHS in 2014. Fuqua is a kicker and punter for the Tigers majoring in kinesiology. He wishes to pursue a career in physical therapy. [Full story »]

Along with voting for governor and other state offices, Pike voters will decide whether or not to allow sales of liquor by the drink in the county. The local ballot question reads, “Shall the governing authority of Pike County be authorized to issue licenses to sell distilled spirits for beverage purposes by the drink, such sales to be for consumption only on the premises?” [Full story »]

The mother of a 6-year-old who took two unloaded antique guns in his book bag to Pike County Primary School could lose all three of her children to state custody. She also has a 2-year-old and 5-year-old who were taken into Department of Family and Children Services care after she was arrested at the school and charged with reckless conduct only four days after moving to Pike from Alabama. Burglary suspect arrested

Sheriff’s office investigators arrested Joseph Drake, 32, in connection with the early Oct. 1 smash and grab burglary at the Rock Store in Pike County. Taken during the theft were numerous lottery tickets, cigarettes and the cash drawer for the business. Drake was identified through video surveillance after cashing in some of the stolen lottery tickets in Upson. [Full story »]
