Pike County commissioners were presented with a check Oct. 9 for $18,260 by EMA director Jimmy Totten as part of a GEMA matching grant for installation of a generator system at the public works building. The county approved and paid for the project and was reimbursed by the state for half the cost of installation.

Several owls are once again flying free after being rehabilitated by Bubba and Friends Inc. of Pike County. Four great horned owls were released in September and others – including barn owls, barred owls and screech – have been released throughout the year.
