Pike County High School drama students placed second in the Region 2AAA One Act Play competition in Macon Friday, Oct. 19.

In addition to bringing home the second place trophy, Eliza Norton won Best Actress in Region. Taylor Blake was selected for the All Star Play cast award in Pike’s play, “The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza” by Don Zolidis. [Full story »]

A fundraiser will be held Saturday, Nov. 17 from noon to 9 p.m. in Williamson to benefit the two young sons of the late Mindy Ann Manley. She died in a car accident on Highway 19 in September and the fundraiser will help her two sons, one of whom she home schooled. The event will include barbecue plates, several bands, cake walks, hay rides, raffles, horseshoes, kids' games a snack bar and more at 460 Aerodrome Way, Griffin. Ben Ratliff, Pearl Bottom Radio and Strutt will play during the fundraising event. [Full story »]

Cheer team 8th in state

Pike County High School cheerleaders took part in the GHSA Cheerleading State Championships in Columbus on Saturday, Nov. 10.

More than 5,000 spectators watched as Pike performed their two and a half minute routine. The Pike squad was as near perfect as a team could be but fell short in the point totals. Pike had a total of 258 points out of a possible 300. Pierce County won the championship with 289 points. This was Pike’s highest point total of the year. [Full story »]

Wendy’s Heisman recipient recognized

A Pike County student was named a state finalist for the Wendy's High School Heisman. Stuart Gregg of Williamson plays several sports at Flint River Academy and will graduate with honors in May.

He has played for FRA's Wildcats basketball, baseball, track, tennis and football teams as a starter all four years of high school. He plans to attend Georgia College and State University to major in agricultural economy. [Full story »]

Pike County unemployment was again second lowest in the region in September at 8.7%, down slightly from 8.8% in August. Joblessness was 10% in September 2011. There are now six of 10 Three Rivers counties in single-digit unemployment. [Full story »]

The Pike County Pirates (5-4, 3-2) traveled to Macon's Henderson Stadium Friday night to battle the Central Macon Chargers (2-7, 2-3). Realtime scoring from the game was provided by Greg Parrott and compiled by Rachel McDaniel.

The Pike County Marching Pirate Regiment Band performed at Newnan’s Old South Marching Festival on Saturday, Nov 3. The Pirate Regiment competed with 23 other bands from as far away as Kentucky and South Carolina. Pike County not only received the highest rating possible in all categories of competition but swept their division. [Full story »]
