Pike County unemployment remained not only the lowest in the region but held steady at 8.8% during July and June. It was 9.9% in July 2011. Pike and Coweta are the only counties in single-digit joblessness in the 10-county Three Rivers region. [Full story »]

Candidates are asked to qualify for mayor of Williamson, mayor of Meansville and several council member seats for Molena, Meansville and Williamson. Grants to help with drought

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service recently announced the availability of up to $5 million in grants to evaluate and demonstrate agricultural practices that help farmers and ranchers adapt to drought. NRCS is taking applications for Conservation Innovation Grants to help producers build resiliency into their production systems so they can adapt to climatic extremes such as the historic drought impacting the nation. After Pike County employees working in the courthouse aired concerns about dust, noise and debris in their working spaces, inspectors from Occupational Health and Safety Administration visited the courthouse Aug. 29. According to county manager Mike Phillips attempts were made to resolve issues raised by courthouse employees and no violations were filed against Pike. [Full story »]
