Prepare for July 31 primary
As campaigns for local offices reach full steam in June and July this year, citizens can prepare to cast their votes one of three ways – in early voting which starts July 10, by absentee ballot which can be ordered now, or on Election Day which is set for July 31 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. This year, early voting has been reduced from a 45 day period to 16 business days and Saturday, July 21.

Pike maintains low unemployment rate

Pirates honored at banquet
The 2012 Pike County Pirates baseball team held its banquet Thursday, May 31 at the Christ Chapel youth center. Papa Willie’s sponsored a barbecue dinner and Tim’s Country Kitchen provided dessert that served about 180 people.

Grand week at Grand Junction

As I got off the plane in Denver with my friends Larry and Patsy Swinney, I knew we were in for an extraordinary week at the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Col. Larry and Patsy has a son who plays baseball for Gordon College. I was there to support my son as a coach for Gordon and take photos for the team. We made the four-hour journey from Denver to Grand Junction and admired the beautiful Rocky Mountains that were capped with snow. [Full story »]

PC Storm blows through Savannah
One Storm that blew through Savannah over Memorial Day weekend was Pike County’s U8 PC Storm boys soccer team. They blew through their division Saturday, winning 5-0 and 7-2 in The Shamrock Cup tournament hosted by the Savannah Celtic Football Club.

Tractor pull, fun day to honor Eli
A special tractor pull event will be held June 23 in remembrance of Pike County firefighter Eli Bishop, 19, who died in a car accident June 20, 2011. He joined Pike County Emergency Services as a high school senior and had plans to pursue a career as an EMT.
