T-SPLOST on July 31 ballot
Pike County, along with nine other counties in the region, will vote July 31 on the Transportation Investment Act, or T-SPLOST, to fund state transportation projects in the area. Projects include road widening, maintenance, traffic operational upgrades, bridge improvements and new roads. Pike County, along with Upson, Spalding, Meriwether, Butts, Carroll, Coweta, Heard and Troup counties, will decide whether or not to approve the 10-year collection of a one-cent sales tax in the upcoming election.

Fundraiser for 4-year-old set for June 16

Briana Hudson and her mother Denise Hudson were in an auto accident Oct. 16, 2011. Hospital and medical costs for Briana, 4, have now hit the $3.5 million mark. She was in ICU for seven weeks at $35,000 per day. The Pike County community is asked to take part in a June 16 motorcycle ride and fun day fundraiser for her at the Christ Chapel student center on Highway 19, featuring live bands, inflatables, raffles and barbecue from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. [Full story »]

I am excited to see funding for an extension of the Middle Georgia Regional Airport’s runway. I cannot state enough the importance of such an extension. It really will create jobs.

Honor the fallen Monday
American Legion Post 197 will celebrate Memorial Day on the courthouse square Monday, May 28 at 12 noon in honor of fallen soldiers throughout U.S. history. According to Post 197 Commander Bill Payton, the ceremony will be less than an hour long and include a tribute to soldiers who were Missing In Action and Prisoners Of War.
