Pike County voter turnout is very low in the presidential preferential primary. A total of 245 advanced voters have taken advantage of early voting as of press time Monday, Feb. 27. Absentee ballots have been received from 75 voters. Only four voters took advantage of advanced voting Saturday, Feb. 25. [Full story »]

At the Feb. 13 meeting, the Parks and Recreation Authority discussed each line item in the proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year in an almost two hour meeting. Members voted unanimously to cancel plans for a Pride of Pike celebration in 2012 and start overseeing the operation of Pike’s baseball, soccer and cheerleading programs in 2013 with the assistance of the three associations that now run those programs. The portion of Jackson Street to the north of the Pike County Courthouse, from its intersection with Highway 19 southbound at the Courthouse Annex to its intersection with Highway 19 northbound at the Sheriff’s Department, will be closed Monday, Feb. 20 until construction is completed on the courthouse in about 12 months. A host of storytellers, raconteurs, artists and other performers will visit A Novel Experience in downtown Zebulon Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Unchained Tour. The group of multi-talented travelers includes musicians and authors who will travel on a 1972 Blue Bird school bus painted and renovated for this year’s Unchained Tour across the Southeast.
