Pecan business gets busy
A downtown Zebulon business has been buying, cracking and selling pecans for around 50 years and continues the tradition this year, even though an integral part of the operation is missing. Jimmy Caraway bought Mid-Ga Pecan in 2006 and planned to run the business until he could afford to retire. He passed away recently and his fiance and sister now run the business the same way he would have required.

West Central facility gets reprieve
West Central Pre-Release Center has been a part of the Pike County community for decades and the facility may not close as announced by the Department of Corrections in June. Instead, the facility will be used to treat female inmates who require court-appointed substance abuse treatment beginning sometime after the start of the new year.

He was a precious baby. Of course, all parents think that about their newborn children. So, since I was his daddy and he was my son, it was ok for me to think that.
He came early. And he was small, the result of a heart condition I didn’t know about until the day he was born. But, that didn’t matter. To me, he was perfect, and precious, and sweet, and I would, as the old saying goes, “move Heaven and Earth,” to protect him, and to provide for him, and to make him better. [Full story »]

Thanksgiving feast for all
Wings of Joy will host a Thanksgiving dinner for the entire community Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. The church has been in the community for seven years and recently built a new church on Highway 19 near the Pike Depot. Pastors Warren and Debbie King said they hope to bring the community together at the free Thanksgiving Day dinner.
