Early voting for an Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax to fund local school improvements is underway at the courthouse through Nov. 4. Election day is Nov. 8 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The one percent sales tax, or E-SPLOST, will be collected for about five years if the referendum passes. The tax can be used to pay for capital projects or pay debt, but cannot be used to pay operating expenses, such as salaries. [Full story »]

The Pike County High School chorus is raising money for a trip to sing in the Candlelight Processional held every year at Disney’s Epcot Center and the deadline for funding is quickly approaching. The chorus was chosen via an audition tape over hundreds of schools across the country. [Full story »]

As Meansville council members were presented with the finalized intergovernmental and mutual aid agreements with Pike County regarding the Meansville volunteer fire department at the Oct 10 meeting, they accepted the resignation of fire chief Scott Huckaby effective Nov. 1. City attorney Tom Morton outlined the intergovernmental agreement that has been negotiated for almost a year. [Full story »]
