Barnie is a baby barn owl who fell from his nest in a Pike County barn’s rafters and severely injured his leg, breaking it in two places. He needs special surgery so he can learn to fly and possibly be returned to the wild with his parents. [Full story »]

County looks to inventory property

Pike County commissioners approved a Tax Anticipation Note to fund operational expenses and discussed inventory improvements to county-owned land at the June 28 meeting. It was noted the loan is not to exceed $800,000 and will be drawn on an as needed basis as it was last year. Commissioners also discussed the old Hollonville firehouse which is currently unused. Middle school cheerleaders attended Cheer Camp at Columbus State University June 16-18. During camp, the team learned several cheers and dance routines and practiced them to compete in the camp competition. The PCMS team took home the first place trophy in every category: home pompom routine, extreme dance routine and camp cheer. [Full story »]

When our founding fathers first considered fighting for freedom, it was not an easy decision to make. Many lost their lives before America could call itself a nation.

In the past 235 years, America has fought countless other wars and sacrificed millions and millions of brave soldiers’ lives. None of those involved made the easy decision.
