Daniel McNair of Molena is a 7-year-old boy who loves Toy Story and swimming. Unlike other kids his age, he is unable to walk, dress or feed himself because he has had muscular dystrophy since birth. His family is trying to build a home that fits his needs and allows him to move more freely from room to room. They were recently set back by the theft of their tools and supplies and building has come to a standstill. [Full story »]

A local tribute to fallen officer Richard "Rick" Daly will be held at Moody Funeral Home this afternoon. The DOT expects to close Highway 19 near the funeral home to handle the 750 or more vehicles in the funeral procession. [Full story »]

The Pike Red 7-8 All-Star team won the Dixie-Youth Machine Pitch State Tournament recently. The tournament was held in Perry and the Pike Red team defeated Lamar County, Taylor County, Baldwin County and Perry to win the tournament. [Full story »] 

Slain Clayton deputy lived in Pike; suspect arrested

A veteran Clayton Co. deputy shot and killed during a traffic stop today lived here in Pike. He has been identified as Ricky Daly, 55, of Wrightsburg Way in Zebulon. Daly once worked at the Pike Co. sheriff's office.

His son is a lieutenant with the Fayette Co. sheriff's office.

UPDATE: The suspect in the shooting, 17-year-old Jonathan Bun, was arrested at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. His mother was also picked up. [Full story »]

County looks to inventory property

Pike County commissioners approved a Tax Anticipation Note to fund operational expenses and discussed inventory improvements to county-owned land at the June 28 meeting. It was noted the loan is not to exceed $800,000 and will be drawn on an as needed basis as it was last year. Commissioners also discussed the old Hollonville firehouse which is currently unused.
