The Department of Revenue reopened its online 2011 Georgia License Plate Design Contest for a revote by the public. Voting will be allowed for three weeks and will end Monday, Aug. 8 at 3 p.m. To vote, go to etax.dor.ga.gov.  [Full story »] 

As the county looks to cut costs wherever possible, the Pike County tax commissioner’s office will no longer accept credit cards beginning Aug. 1. The office hopes to create a website in 45 to 60 days so residents can pay tax bills and tag fees online using credit cards. [Full story »] 

Pike County Emergency Services recently purchased 10 refurbished Scott Self Contained Breathing Apparatuses. The SCBAs will upgrade the firefighting capabilities of the county and replace many of the antiquated breathing units now in use. Those have become unsafe and unreliable for firefighting operations. The old breathing apparatus also did not meet minimum National Fire Protection Association standards. [Full story »]

Williamson council members received some long-awaited news at the July 7 meeting. Mayor Steve Fry announced work on the library/educational center was set to begin the following Monday. Both water and electrical service have been connected to the building. [Full story »]
