Buford leads 1-0 after one full inning. Lance Shelton on the mound for Pike.

Chris Long homers for Pike, tying the game at 1-1 after 1.5 innings.

1-1 after 3.5 innings.

Buford leads 2-1 after 5.5 innings. Back-to-back great plays on foul balls by Nate Ferrell with the bases loaded.

Buford gets 2-run homer to lead 4-1 with no outs in bottom of 6th. Buford scores on passesd ball to take 5-1 lead after six innings. Pike down to it's last at bat.

Kody Adams grounds out.

Buford gets solo HR to take 5-1 lead after 2 innings.
Buford gets another solo HR to take 6-1. Watkins yanked. Ferrell to take mound for Pike. Buford gets 2-run HR to take 8-1 lead after 3 innings.
Buford gets another solo HR to take 9-1 lead after 3.5 innings.

Pirates prepare in spring scrimmage

The Pike County Pirates football team held its spring practice for the last two weeks and the annual Red and White game last Thursday, May 19.
The Pirates started out with 125 players at the beginning of the spring practice and ended with 115 players. Also, 45 eighth graders came out for the team. Eighteen helmets and pads had to be borrowed from the recreation department to dress out all the players. [Full story »]

The Pike County Pirates junior varsity girls soccer team finished their season undefeated with a record of 8-0-2. The Pirates, led by captains Paige Minter and Carson Wynn, scored 44 goals for the season and allowed two. Goalies Gianella Funes, Baylynn Merritt and Taylor Asher combined for eight shutouts. The middle school track and field experienced a victorious year with an undefeated girls team garnering the 2011 CGMSL championship in track and field. The boys team won as well, finishing third in the championship event held at Crawford County Middle School. [Full story »]

With a 22-4 record and a ranking of fifth in the state in the AA classification, the Pirates have high hopes of making it to the big dance in about a month. The Pirates will host the Brantley County Blue Herons this Friday in Zebulon at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. A game three would be played Saturday at 1 p.m. if needed. [Full story »]
