Both the Pirates and Lady Pirates will play in the playoffs this year, with the 9-15 Pirates (6-10 in region) clinching the fifth seed in the AA regional tournament. The Pirates beat Whitewater 52-45, lost to SW Macon 46-35 and beat Putnam County 41-30 last week. They are ranked fifth and played number four seed Morgan County Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 5:30 p.m. with the winner playing NE Macon Friday at 8:30 p.m. [Full story »]

I had a bad feeling about Donald Clark almost as soon as I heard about his disappearance. Shortly after he vanished, I contacted Jennifer Clark to gather information and acquire a photo of Donald to go with print and online stories about his disappearance. Ingredients:
Cooking spray
2 tablespoons instant coffee granules
1/4 cup hot water
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (about 6 3/4 ounces)
1 1/3 cups sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 large eggs
1/4 cup toffee chips

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°.
Coat bottom of a 9-inch square baking pan with cooking spray.
Combine coffee granules and 1/4 cup hot water, stirring until the coffee granules dissolve.
Combine butter and semisweet chocolate chips in a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at HIGH for 1 minute or until butter melts; stir until chocolate is smooth.
Lightly spoon flour into dry measuring cups; level with a knife. Combine flour, sugar, unsweetened cocoa, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl, stirring with a whisk. Combine coffee mixture, butter mixture, vanilla extract, and eggs in a medium bowl, stirring with a whisk. Add coffee mixture to flour mixture; stir just until combined. Spread evenly into prepared pan. Sprinkle evenly with toffee chips. Bake at 350° for 22 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.

Johnathan and Lyndsay Sutton of Meansville announce the birth of their daughter Avery Grace Sutton at 8:20 a.m. Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, at Upson Regional Medical Center in Thomaston.
She weighed 9 pounds, 3 ounces and was 20.5 inches long.
Maternal grandparents are Julie and Terry Jones of Pike County. Maternal great-grandparents are Judy Campbell and the late Archie Campbell of Pike County and Buddy and Pat Jones of Pike County.
Paternal grandparents are Jake and Kim Sutton of Pike County. The six daughters of Henry and Annie Williams – Annie, Barbara, Betty, Henri, Lena and Lottie – have started a food pantry in Pike County for needy families in the community.
