On a warm Thursday afternoon, brush fires spread near Molena as the wind blew the flames close to several homes. According to fire chief Randy Snyder, a 29-acre brush fire on Union School Road threatened three residences. [Full story »]

The Pike County Pirates lost to the Greene County Tigers 71-54 Friday night but will make the state tournament field as the fourth seed from Region 4AA.

Pike will play at Tattnall County at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Lamar won the region title and will be seeded first. Northeast is the second seed with Greene finishing third. [Full story »]

A pack of wild dogs attacked and killed a goat and wounded two other animals at a home in Meansville Feb. 5. The homeowner said about a dozen dogs of all ages and breeds attacked the animals in the pasture behind his home.

A Girl Scout saved a woman’s life Friday while delivering cookies with her mom and Scout leader. Brenda Fayard was leaving A Novel Experience to check out the new jewelry store across the square.
